Leadership skills/traits that your leader possess that make him/her a good leader
Leadership Power
Based from our research, we believe Khairul Aming are using a variety of leadership power
in managing his business which is firstly, he is using referent power in leading his business.
Referent power is a power that comes from a leader’s ability to inspire and influence others.
This is because after he made his debut in ‘Rasapop’ on his facebook page, he started to venture
on videos and cooking that he would share with his community. However, he felt like he can do
more to generate more revenue thus he started to make a strategy to sell a product to his
community which is the famous ‘Sambal Nyet Berapi’. Now he has a few factories that can
produced 1,000,000 bottles of ‘Sambal Nyet Berapi’ with a gross sale of RM14 million.
Moreover, recently he has received a reward in Tiktok Awards 2023 for ‘Creator Of The Year’ in
Malaysia. During his speech he talked about youngsters nowadays should finished their study
first before being a content creator because at the end of the day in order to remain relevant in
the industry, one will need to have knowledge, critical thinking, problem solving-skills, etiquette,
and common sense in order to deliver your message to the massive cleverly and clearly. Like
how Khairul Aming’s viral Ramadhan cooking series titled “30 Hari 30 Resepi”, he would always
research about the food he wanted to make especially the recipe’s because every state has their
own unique way in cooking their trademark foods so Khairul Aming knows he have to make a
recipe based on that but with his own way so he can attract more people to follow him and
watch his content. A quote that suits this is “if you want to build a ship, don’t drum up the men
to gather wood, divide work and give orders. Instead teach them to yearn for the vast and
endless sea.” from Antoine de Saint Exupery, a French writer who wrote the iconic ‘The Little
Prince’.
Secondly, we believe Khairul Aming is using Reward power in managing his business. The
meaning of reward power is formal power given to a work leader to give out rewards to other
employees. This leadership skills shows when Khairul Aming would always reward his workers
with a lot of gifts, vacation trips and many more. For example, he has done something bizarre
where a lot of leaders would not do. Khairul Aming have close both of his factory for sambal
nyet product for 2 days in order to buy his workers ‘baju raya’ which is a traditional clothe for
the celebration of Hari Raya Aidilfitri. He has a total of 60 workforce in his factory and a piece of
the clothes can be around RM150 and above which is expensive too but he still pays for all the
clothes expenses. Not only that, he also gave them bonus raya to each one of his workers with a
total of RM1,000 which is a lot too. Before we judged why he would go to such length on why
he would spend all the money for his staff when he can just do it differently, we believed he
wanted to encourage all of his staff to work harder in the future because last year, the business
has reached the profit of RM14 million. The way how he strategizes the business to reach a new
height is by winning the heart of his people first. This truly shows that Khairul Aming is a
benevolent leader to all of his workers. All of his actions are in order to gain profit not for
himself alone but for his worker and the business itself. A quote that can represent this skill is

Intelligence
When we talked about intelligence, it can also link about the ability of the leader to be more
creative, inventive and inspire their team to be creative as well. From what we found in our
research, we believe Khairulaming have the ability to think differently from any other leaders
that make his business run perfectly even when our country was facing economic crisis. This
leadership skills shows because his background is extraordinary. After all, he was graduated
from bachelor in mechanical engineering at Vanderbilt University, USA. Based from his
qualifications alone can show to people that he is an educated person and he knows how to be
a good leader. Truthfully, we all can agree that it is in our human nature to follow a leader that
are well educated and diligent especially a leader that is understanding with his/her workers
because that type of leader can guide their own people to achieve the company’s target
together rather than exploiting the workers benefit and achievements.
Maturity
In a business, it is essential for a leader to be matured in all aspect. Especially when they are
receiving constructive criticism from their customers. This is because constructive criticism does
not focus solely on the negative aspect, but they also focus on improving it. For example,
recently khairulaming has received criticism on one of his recipe’s ‘sambal hijau bilis’. They said
that his recipe’s contain a lot of oil while making it which may caused health problem for a
certain group of people. Khairulaming response to this criticism is absolutely wonderful. He
pressed a lot that moderation is key and it is our own choice how we want to prepare our food.
Khairulaming make a video to address about the criticism he received and the way how he
answered all of the criticism with calming voice and attitude also manage to captivated a lot of
people to respect and inspire to be like him one day. Moreover, the way how he responded to
criticism and turned it into an opportunity to educate which indirectly increased his brand
name. This is how a matured leader deal with constructive criticism and improve their brand
name by admitting his mistake and improve it and solve the mistakes brilliantly.
