Field Observation
After we arrived there students are classified in 2 groups and then our
lecture meet us with our tour guide and told him to give us
information concerned to heat treatment processes and how metals
are manufactured there.
Then we were guided by a tour host who explained in detail the ferrous
and non-ferrous metal production processes and the raw materials
needed for the production. He first took us where the non-ferrous
materials were made. The non-ferrous materials include bronze, lead,
zinc, copper, etc. The raw materials needed for this production is
mainly scraps. The scraps are collected and melted, then they'll do
some composition to it. Then they'll refine to find what's in the melted
scrap by doing a laboratory test. Then he showed us different
mechanisms they use to melt and mix the scraps. Finally, he took us to
the first place where the non-ferrous and ferrous scraps were gathered.
We finished this tour after our assistant told us they produce different
products based on the customers’ needs.
The next place we went was the heat treatment workshop. There, we
had met another tour guide and he took us through workshop. In a
washing machine, the products are cleaned. The next piece of
equipment was a sealed quench furnace. Cleaning the oil that was
taken out of the sealed quench furnace is the washer's main job. The
processes of hardening, annealing and tempering were carried out
using a variety of techniques.
The last workshop we visited was the forging shop. Here, our tour
guide started by introducing his name. His name is Abera and he is the
forging shop leader.
Our trip ended about 6.00 pm. It can be concluded that the trip was
successful and we believed that our objective was achieved. We
learned something new and beneficial for us.
Many thanks to all of the industry, university , and our tour guides that
were responsible for making this trip the success that it was. This
experience would not be possible without your continued support.
Thanks also to our lecture.
