Here at Peking University international summer school, we have a very diverse student
body. There are some students who are major in politic science or history, but more
students actually have very diverse educational backgrounds. It’s different, dynamic, but
I enjoy the learning environment exactly because of this diversity.

Assoc. Prof. QIN Xuezheng

School of Economics, Peking University

China is already the world's second largest economy, and also the world's largest
exporter, and manufacturers. So the spectacular economic growth during the past
several decades generates a lot of interest around the world. So many students, no
matter whether they are in school, or in the industry, they want to know more about
China. So my course hopes to provide them with such knowledge, so they can have a
better understanding of the current status as well as future challenges and polices of
China's economy.

Xu Liang, Assistant ProFessor

School of International Studies, Peking University

We really want to expand students' understanding of Chinese state owned companies

by bringing them to the company to have a in-person interactions with the management
team of the company. That way, before they leave China and conclude their class, they
will have a more concrete understanding of what these companies are doing in Africa
and why they do it.

Cheng Ying, Assistant Professor

School of Foreign Languages, Peking University

We hope that our students can base their understanding of Africa-China interactions
on concrete knowledge in the economic, political, and cultural context for both China
and Africa rather than ideological assumptions. We encourage students to adopt an
open interdisciplinary approach and to use these approaches to create more nuanced
understandings of Africa-China interactions and to think about or reflect on their own
contributions to the knowledge production in the context of the Global South.
