GRP Pipes Handling, Storage, Tansp
AMIANTIT PIPE SYSTEMS

• Upon pipe delivery , inspection shall be carried out by contactor to ensure pipes,
fittings, couplings .. etc are delivered in good condition. Inspection shall be for
external and internal surface.
• Inspection shall consider the Quantity of goods received , pipes, fittings,
couplings and rubber rings.
• If any damage observed, segregate
the material and contact the supplier.
• DO NOT use damaged pipe either
internally or externally
• Minor damaged pipes can be
repaired easily at site. However the
damage extends shall be evaluated
by supplier representative.
GRP Pipes Handling, Storage, Tansp
AMIANTIT PIPE SYSTEMS

• Pipes shall be stored at its original storage while it is received on trailer.

GRP Pipes Handling, Storage, Tansp
AMIANTIT PIPE SYSTEMS

• Pipe offloading shall be handled in care and safe manner.

AMIANTIT PIPE SYSTEMS

Spools un balanced need more care and additional belts for offloading .
GRP Pipes Handling, Storage, Tansp
AMIANTIT PIPE SYSTEMS

• Pipes could be loaded in package or nested.

• Rubber and lubricant shall be stored in covered
area

• Pipe Laying: Typical value for A = 0.4 DN. Or adequate for proper pipe
handling from haunch and sides.
Underground Installation
AMIANTIT PIPE SYSTEMS

• Bedding should be over a stable

trench and at layer 100-150 mm
well compacted.
• Special bedding is required in case
un bedding.
• Proper haunch shall be there to
ensure proper side / bottom support
for the pipe
Underground Installation
AMIANTIT PIPE SYSTEMS

• Type 1 or Type 2,
Underground Installation
AMIANTIT PIPE SYSTEMS

• Backfilling shall be in
layers 200-300 mm.
• The recommended
type of backfill
materials are SC 1 or
SC 2. and they
required the minimum
efforts for compaction.
• It is essential to ensure
proper compaction at
the 60-70 % of pipe
diameter this will give
a very good support to
the pipe and the pipe
will tend to have a
negative deflection.
Underground Installation
AMIANTIT PIPE SYSTEMS

• Minimum compaction layer over the pipe depends on the equipment weight.
Underground Installation
AMIANTIT PIPE SYSTEMS

• Minimum coverage against floatation .

• Coupling joining: coupling grooves shall be

cleaned, before gasket installation.
• Gasket shall be installed where lips on the inside
diameter of the gasket.
• Lubricant shall be applied, lubricant shall be
vegetable type, other types like grease or other
oils shall not be used.
• Spigot shall be cleaned before start pushing in
the coupling.
Underground Installation
AMIANTIT PIPE SYSTEMS

• Pipe joining shall be by using chain lock

equipment having a capacity in tons
equal to 2* DN (mm) / 1000.
• It is required to use 2 chain lock located
on 180 degrees orientation and both of
them shall have same capacity.
• Clamps shall be fabricated and fixed on
the pipe as per the side figures.
• Pipe cutting at site is not recommended
unless there are special pipe fully
calibrated and marked with
“Adjustment Pipe”.
• Pipe cutting shall be done by using
angle grinder equipped with diamond
cutting disc special for GRP pipes.

• Use Cement stabilised backfill
Cement is mixed with moist sandy soil, and the mixture
placed and compacted as a typical backfill soil. The
amount of type 3 Portland cement added to the sandy soil
is approximately 4 to 5 parts per hundred weight of the
soil. The moisture level should be in the range of 5 to 10%.
The compaction density required is dependent on the cover
depth prior to allowing the stabilised backfill to set. If the
desired cover depth is small, the required density is low. The
cement-stabilised backfill can set in one or two days and the
cover fill can be placed to grade, with a maximum total cover
depth of 5 metres.
Underground Installation
AMIANTIT PIPE SYSTEMS
Concrete Encasement
AMIANTIT PIPE SYSTEMS

• Concrete shall be poured in stages to allow the cement to set

Underground Installation
AMIANTIT PIPE SYSTEMS

• Pipe joining in underground

application can be done by lamination
joint as well.
• Lamination joint required skilled
trained personnel, controlled
conditions and special work
instructions will be used.
• The connection to rigid structures
while using lamination joint shall be
done by using a sleeve, or rapping the
pipe with a thick layer of rubber 30-
40 mm.

Aboveground Installation
AMIANTIT PIPE SYSTEMS

• Above ground installation required to be done by one of the below joints

- Lamination joint
- Flange joint
- Lock joint
- Cement joint

And care must be taken during installation to avoid excessive stresses on pipe due to
misalignment or mismatch in dimensions.
Supports shall be placed according to approved ISOmetrics.
