Overview of Grade 1 Long term Plan/Scheme of Work
In Grade 1 of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), the music curriculum is
designed to provide a well-rounded musical education throughout the year, aligning with the seasons of
Monsoon (Varsha Ritu), Autumn (Sharad Ritu), Pre-Winter (Hemant Ritu), Winter (Shishir Ritu), Spring
(Vasant Ritu), and Summer (Grishma Ritu).
• Teaching Activities: Interactive discussions, listening to music, and exploring key musical
attributes.
• Learning Outcomes: Learners will begin to grasp pitch and melodic concepts.
• Teaching Activities: Parents/Guardians will sing and play percussion instruments with
learners.
• Teaching Activities: Listening to and studying folk music from different cultures.
• Teaching Activities: Guided composition exercises and creative projects with or without
use of music technology.

Overview of Violin Long-term Plan/Scheme of Work
In this violin curriculum for Kyunghwa Jin June Lee, we combine the Suzuki Method with preparation for
the Rockschool Grade 1 Violin Music Examination. The program is divided into two semesters, aligning
with the seasons of Monsoon (Varsha Ritu), Autumn (Sharad Ritu), Pre-Winter (Hemant Ritu), Winter
(Shishir Ritu), Spring (Vasant Ritu), and Summer (Grishma Ritu). Each semester focuses on specific
learning objectives and activities to develop violin skills and prepare for the examination.
• Learning Outcomes: The learner understands the violin's structure and how to handle it.
• Learning Outcomes: The learner can play a basic melody on the violin.
• Learning Outcomes: The learner can produce clear and controlled bowing.
• Learning Outcomes: The learner can play a new piece on the violin.
Semester 2 (Winter, Spring, and Summer): January to May
Unit 6: Building Finger Dexterity
• Learning Objective: Strengthen finger agility and coordination.
• Teaching Activities: Exam repertoire practice, mock exams, and performance skills.
Throughout the curriculum, the combination of the Suzuki Method and Rockschool examination
preparation ensures a comprehensive and skill-building approach to learning the violin. The learner
progresses from basic techniques to more advanced pieces, ultimately achieving a high level of
proficiency in violin performance.
