    Seven Sacraments

    · The Sacraments are holy words and actions instituted by Christ to bring constant blessings
    upon His people.

    · The Sacraments are symbolic actions because they make present to us their deeper
    meaning – the Risen Christ.

    The Seven Sacraments

    These are grouped into three:

    A. Sacraments of Initiation

    A. Sacraments of Initiation

    1. Baptism - The Sacrament of Baptism is the first Sacrament we receive. Our Baptism is a sign
    of welcome to the Church.

    - Through Baptism, we become united with Jesus Christ. We share in the mission of Jesus,
    and we are called to proclaim the word of God.

    - In the Sacrament of Baptism we become “Children of God”

    2. Confirmation - Through the Sacrament of Confirmation, the Holy Spirit gives us gifts that
    empower us to share in the mission of Christ and the Church.

    - Confirmation increases the gifts we receive in the Sacrament of Baptism.

    - It gives us the strength to live up to our vocation as children of God.

    - In the Sacrament of Confirmation we become “Soldiers of Christ“

    3. Eucharist - The word Eucharist means “thanksgiving”. Through the Eucharist the members
    of the Church are united more closely to one another and to Christ.

    - When we receive Jesus in the Eucharist, we become stronger spiritually. The Eucharist
    unites us with God and gives us strength to grow and mature in our faith life.

    B. Sacraments of Healing and Forgiveness

    1. Reconciliation - In this Sacrament,

    Jesus shows us His willingness to accept us back no matter how much our sins have hurt Him.

    - If we go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation with a humble and sincere heart, Jesus will
    surely forgive our sins.
    2. Anointing of the Sick - The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick

    gives health and strength to the soul, and sometimes to the body when we are dangerously ill.

    - Today, the Church continues the healing ministry which Jesus passed on to His apostles
    through the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick.

    - We participate in the healing power of the Church when we do our best to care for and
    comfort our brothers and sisters who are suffering.

    C. Sacraments of Service and Commitment

    1. Holy Orders - The Sacrament of Holy Orders is the sacrament of apostolic ministry though
    which the mission entrusted by Christ to His apostles continues to be exercised in the Church.

    - Today, Jesus continues to call people to this mission. These are Pope, bishops, priests and
    deacons who are ordained or given a special dignity.

    2. Matrimony - Matrimony is the sacrament of vocation, which unites a man and a woman in
    love before God. It is a covenant between a baptized man and a woman.

    - Through this sacrament, couples respond to Jesus’ call to serve Him and the Christian
    community by establishing families.

    Through the Seven Sacraments in the Church, we continue to experience Jesus’ loving
    presence in our midst. Through these, we get closer to Jesus and feel His love in meaningful
    way.
