Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. Love does
not demand its own way. Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been
wronged. 6 It is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love
never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every

way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man is
actually loving himself when he loves his wife. 29 No one hates his own body but lovingly
cares for it, just as Christ cares for his body, which is the church. 30 And we are his body.

As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife,
and the two are united into one.”* 32 This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the
way Christ and the church are one. 33 So again I say, each man must love his wife as he
loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

These trials are only to test your faith, to show that it is strong and pure. It is being
tested as fire tests and purifies gold—and your faith is far more precious to God than
mere gold. So if your faith remains strong after being tried by fiery trials, it will bring
you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the
whole world.

You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him,
you trust him; and even now you are happy with a glorious, inexpressible joy. 9 Your
reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.
