439-Sump Pit and Pump Capacity
SUMP PIT
Parking sump pits will be subjected to maximum discharge in the event of sprinkler breakage in the event of fire hence
the sump pumps must be capable of pumping the incoming volume
Sump Pit Sizing- ( Note Pump runs for 6mins alternate intervals hence 5 starts per hour)
Allowance for
Sewage Flow Sprinkler Condensate Retention Volume
Flow Discharge Total flow Drain (10%) Time Collected Pumping Outflow Pressure Pipe
Reference Reference DU L/s L/s L/s L/s mins Dimensions (m) Time Required Size

Hence Sump Pit Will have 2 Nos Pumps 1 Duty+ 1 Standby each of 7.20 L/s
( Note 3.6 L/s will be retained in first 6 mins, then pump will start and run for next 6 mins, during this time also there will be inflow to the pit, so pump will have to discharge 7.2 L/s to empty the pit. The Cycle will start again
