The ancient city of Babylon has opened up and gave much inspiration to other modern
day cities and world powers. Also it has given inspiration to several literature pieces with
some of its historical traits. Some of the traits of old Babylon have been adjusted a slight
bit to fit in the short story By the Waters of Babylon By Stephen Vincent Benet. The
short story; By The Waters Of Babylon is about a young man who questions his people
s belief system and is starving for knowledge of the forbidden land or The place of the
gods as him and the rest of the hill people refer to it as. John; the central character of the

In the story by Stephen Vincent Benet the setting takes place in a destroyed
civilization in the future where technology went backwards due to destruction but is
still in the future. The old and historical Babylon city was only rich and powerful
around 1899 CE. There is a huge difference between the time New York was a
civilization and when Babylon was. The author decides to transform the time periods
and locations of the real Babylon and New York city in the short story to create a more
appealing setting to the reader and to develop the short story s main idea. In addition
to the time of the cities being running civilizations; the level of civilization is also
transformed from the real Babylon to New York in the story. When Babylon was a
civilization around 1890 CE there was a very high level of civilization; and in the
short story the city had a low civilization because of it being destroyed. The
Babylonians achieved a high level of civilization ( Defining Babylon ) this is from a
text that proves that there was a high civilization in Babylon at one point. I was taught
how to read in the old books and how to make the old writings ( Benet 2 ). This was a
quote from the short story and it represents to the audience the low level of civilization
that New York has in the story by Vincent Benet.
Vaccine Resistance Movement And Vaccines
Disease is something that the Western world has the power to limit. The anti vaxxer
group, Vaccine Resistance Movement, wrote an article on their website,
vaccineresistancemovement.org, about the validity of vaccines and how they are
actually corrosive to society rather than beneficial. Although there are critics against
vaccinations, the science is very clear. Vaccinations are beneficial to society and do
not have major downsides. Vaccines are shots given to kids at certain points in their
childhoods to help with their immunity to diseases. The solution in the shot has
weakened forms of diseases, or dead forms of diseases, to introduce a child s body to
the disease. By introducing the body to the disease, the body is able to recognize the
disease and build up antibodies against it, so the disease can t harm the body. Through
this process, many people have become immune to many terrible diseases such as: polio,
measles, diphtheria, pertussis, and mumps (CDC). Many of the diseases that plagued
humanity have been eradicated by the use of vaccination. In the late 1700s and early
1800s, smallpoxwas devastating Europe. With no known cure the chances of death were
at least a 60 percent (Fenn). This all came to an end though when Edward Jenner created
the first vaccine. By using a similar disease to smallpox, Jenner was able to inject people
with the inferior disease. After the body would build up immunity to the disease, the
patient would no longer be susceptible to

the different periods of Ancient Greek art? That s a question that can easily be
answered through research on Greek art but actually understanding the flow of change
within the different periods allows people to grasp the enticing change of the artworks.
The idea of change simply gives artists a way to express themselves, not only for
attracting the eye to unique wonders in the world that occurred, but to also give a sense
of idealism. Artistic figures in Ancient Greek art were made by artists that created the
figures based off of the ideal human form and how they believe artwork should be made
within that period. The artwork was not made to be understood literally,... Show more

Yet the kouroi, which is a style made during the archaic period, reveal further realism,
obviously depicting that the human structure was more important than the overall
events that took place during this period of ancient greek art. The kouros, plural for
kouroi, was the depiction of young men, going from the basic to those that were almost
exact demonstrations. These stylistic depictions were used to indicate feelings and
emotions using figurative gestures. For example, Apollo, a god in Ancient Greek art,
compatible with many sculptures of the perpetual youth known as the kouroi, is
rendered across the Archaic period showing the deified male physique, constructed on
orders of segments and symbolizing the ability of somatic allure. The artists that created
the sculpture of Apollo really put emphasis on the figurative gesture of the torso and
arms, revealing a sentimental posture of what he stands for as an idealistic god.
Although Apollo expressed the advancement of the likeness of human composition
throughout the archaic stage, the young male kouros were not soldiers, they were
emblematics of the worshiper that were contributing a more indefinite and inaudible
assistance to a god.The idea the artist had was to not only show off the ideal male
form, but to also allow for a sculpture that in a way represented no other than a mere
mortal , for those who saw the figure as an enticing change to the span of time, where
beauty and figurative emotion of the perfect male configuration meant alot to people
