A Comprehensive Checklist for the Zibo modded 737NG aircraft

Created by Nico du Bruyn (Skymatix)

~~~
Version C-0027, 24 January 2023
~~~

This guide is based on my previous checklist” but updated and even more refined for flight
sim use while introducing more real world procedures from the FCOM (2019) as well as real
737 pilot’s contributions.

This means that I have adapted actual real world procedures and sometimes, slightly
redesigned some of them, to satisfy the single pilot operations in XP11 without losing too
much authenticity. It simply is not realistic to expect it to work 100% as in the real world and
you are most welcome to adapt this guide to suit your own SOP’s

Whatever you do, please do not use this for real world operations and please do not fight
about it. You might actually just have a different SOP than the next guys and you might also
be correct… just saying :)

Please also note that walk around procedures are not included and some actions that you
need to take have been placed specifically, to trigger the appropriate FMOD sounds.

Lastly, this checklist is based upon the default state that Zibo gives the aircraft to us. Any
switches that you set differently, changing the default state is not covered by this document
~~~
Special thanks goes to Jorge, Tim & Zibo plus AudioBird,Mathieu Matéø Menegoz & Pilot
Saso without whom this project would simply not have been possible. The FCOM and
Operations Guide were helpful too.
Thank you to all my followers as well. You guys make the effort worthwhile for me.
Basic information, notices & requirements
1) In order to enjoy the Zibo mod to the fullest, you need to install and calibrate it
properly. The information is contained in my installation guide via my private hangar,
see link below.
2) Starting the flight and loading the Zibo, at this time, it is best to start with the default
C172 first and then change the aircraft while at the gate AND after the C172 loaded
and XP11 stopped loading the scenery and other add-ons and scripts. It is a
temporary procedure and you will be notified when this is no longer required.
3) Failures are not covered in this guide yet
4) Pro tip: Hypoxia is not a failure in the Zibo code. You get it if you did not configure the
pressurization system correctly. By following this guide it will not happen to you.
5) In terms of the Center Fuel Tanks
- Zibo currently supports automatic failover to the wing tanks once the center
fuel tanks run dry.
- You need to switch the center fuel pumps off, once the low pressure pump
warning comes on.
- I have three different FCOM’s available to me, one from 1997, 2008 and one
from 2014. Each has 7 different minimum fuel values for center tanks during
different phases of the flight. I see no point in simulating each one while
neither XP11 nor Zibo does. I therefore include basic procedures only.
6) Fuel imbalance must not exceed 453 kgs for taxi, takeoff, flight or landing.
7) Engine Start Switch - FLT is used in high turbulence or high water ingestion
conditions
Payload Planning Considerations
1. It is better to have a good landing CG than an average take-off CG.
2. A good landing CG is between 20% and 23%. (21.5% is right in the middle)
3. To see the landing CG on the Zibo tablet (to be able to adjust the CG) you have to
complete the FMC route and CG calculations in it.
4. You can move the CG easily by moving the cargo forward or aft until you have your
desired landing CG.
Some useful information for the descent and landing phases
Calculating Transition Flight Level from Known QNH
QNH TL/TFL
QNH < 977hPa = TA + 2500
977hPa <= < 995hPa = TA + 2000
995hPa <= < 1013hPa = TA + 1500
= 1013hPa = TA + 1000
Some useful information for “holds”
Maximum holding speeds are established to keep aircraft within the protected holding area
during their one-minute (one-minute and a half above 4,300 m (14,000 ft) MSL) inbound and
outbound legs.
● Up to 1,800 m (6,000 ft) MSL: 200 KIAS
● From 1,829 to 4,267 m (6,001 to 14,000 ft) MSL: 230 KIAS
● 4,268 m (14,001 ft) MSL and above: 265 KIAS
The ICAO Maximum holding speeds:
● Up to 4,300 m (14,000 ft): 430 km/h (230 kn)
● 4,300 to 6,100 m (14,000 to 20,000 ft): 440 km/h (240 kn)
● 6,100 to 10,400 m (20,000 to 34,000 ft): 491 km/h (265 kn)
● Above 10,000 m (34,000 ft): M0.83
Approach Configuration Tips
ILS APP Button = Yes, MCP ALT = FAF ALT
GLS APP Button = Yes, MCP ALT = FAF ALT
LNAV/VNAV APP Button = No, MCP ALT = DA(H)
VOR DME with IAN APP Button = Yes, MCP ALT = FAF ALT
RNAV with IAN APP Button = Yes, MCP ALT = FAF ALT
LPV (EGNOS & WAAS) INOP until further notice
The following Approach types require correct input into the MMR;
- ILS, GLS
- Glide Slope (in the FMC) = Yes
(It is automatically set correctly when you select the approach)
The following Approach types do NOT require any input into the MMR;
- VOR DME, LNAV/VNAV and RNAV when using IAN.
- You may enter the VOR frequency as a visual aid.
- Please make sure that no ILS frequency is active in the NAV Radios or MMR
when you fly these approaches
Approach & Landing Considerations
(You may use your own SOP)
Acceptable practices after the correct ILS is identified on the approach
1. ATC clears you to intercept the localizer (implies no vertical clearance for descent
given) you may press VOR LOC to have the aircraft intercept and track the localizer.
2. ATC clears you to intercept the ILS (implies that vertical clearance for descent is
given) you may press APP to have the aircraft intercept and track the localizer and
glide slope.
Interesting Facts
1. When doing an ILS approach, if you select the APP mode before reaching your final
approach speed or being fully established (VOR/LOC & GS Green), you will have to
bug the speed (via the MCP) down yourself, until you reach Vref+5 or whatever yours
will be for your situation.
2. With an RNAV or RNP Approach, if you leave it in LNAV/VNAV, then you will get
automatic speed bug reduction with each Flaps selection through the final profile until
reaching your landing flaps configuration
Useful tips from Twkster
1. Leave the aircraft in LNAV/VNAV until after the final intercept, even when doing an
ILS and especially if you have an arrival that transitions to ILS. The LNAV will plan
the turn to final much better than the ILS LOC... Once established on final before the
final app fix (FAP), select APP on, and arm the second channel AP if doing an
autoland.
This is especially true when an RNP Arrival has more than a 30 degree intercept to
final approach. In APP Mode, the turn to final will not commence until the LOC
needle comes alive... If still in LNAV it will turn when the radius of turn dictated by
current speed requires it giving a much better intercept!
Flaps extension tips.
The goal is to be fully configured before 1000ft AGL to allow for a stable approach
and also to allow trim to be adjusted for final landing trim.
1. Option 1: use the Fix feature on the FMC.
Add /7 then /5 then /3 to the final approach Fix (FAF). At 7nm extend Flaps 1, at 5nm
put gear down & Flaps 15 & at 3nm extend landing Flaps
2. Option 2: Flaps 5 while intercepting the LOC, gear down and flaps 15 at FAF then
landing flaps before 1200ft AGL to ensure a stable approach at 1,000ft AGL
3. High Speed Approach: 180kts until one dot from glideslope capture, gear down
flaps 15 at that point. From there, 160kts @ flaps 15 until 4nm final (about 1,200ft
AGL) then select landing flaps and speed (example Vref+5) to ensure a stable
approach at 1,000ft AGL
The Touchdown Zone is the first 900m / 3,000ft of the runway or first half
of the length of the runway whichever is shorter.
