TEST 1
1. A: Brian wants noodles that are either cheap with least recommendations or expensive
with most recommendations. Fantastic Bowl is both the cheapest and most
recommended by his friends.
2. D: Sandra’s argument is that because TV is a bad influence, the time children are
exposed to it should be reduced. Option D weakens this argument by providing a
positive impact TV can have on its viewers.
3. A: From the north, all three cubes are equally visible. From the east, you can see the
cubes stacked vertically with one cube partially visible on the right. Only figure A fits

E
this description.

PL
4. D: All other employees in the company have a different number of cars. This can be any
number but 4. There is not enough information on other employees in the company
to make a conclusion about them.
5. C: Let the tickets be $10 each.
Each year, John will spend 12 x $10 = $120 on tickets.
Gold: 20% savings on $120 = $24.
M
$120 - $24 = $96 on tickets
Total cost = $96 + $80 subscription fee = $176
Silver: 10% savings on $120 = $12
$120 - $12 = $108
Total cost = $108 + $40 subscription fee = $148
SA

Bronze: 5% savings on $120 = $6

$120 - $6 = $114
Total cost = $114 + $20 subscription fee = $134
John will spend the least with the bronze membership.
6. D: Lee 8, Sam and Ethan 9, Susan 10, Kerry 11
7. B: 30 – 10 = 20, 100 – 30 – 10 = 60, 100 + 10 – 30 = 80
8. B: Total number of days absent by 8 people = 30 + (2 x 10) +(3 x 3) + (4 x 2) + 5 = 72
Total number of days absent by 7 people = 67
Number of days Sam was absent = 72 – 67 = 5 days
