If you go to the bus stop, you will find airproof, glass-like shelters that protect people from snow. Buses are always on time. If you take a taxi, you will
pay more money and you need to call it before. If you want to use your car, you will need to plug it to the electricity because the oil and the water of
the car are frozen. Although it is very cold, you will find that stores and restaurants are open if you go to the malls or downtown. If you want to buy

MY ARTISTIC ADVENTURE
When I was a child in Ireland, I went to bed late, and I could not sleep past six. One morning, I found a Spanish television show with a French man
who was painting a beautiful countryside with oil paints.
Right then, I began watching this show. With his quiet voice he explained his natural way of painting, and he quickly made trees and rivers, simply by
moving his hand across the paper. He made it look simple and easy, so I thought I could do it by myself.
Every Sunday morning, I would try to paint what he was painting on the screen, but I needed oil paints to make my paintings as beautiful as his. I
could not buy oil paints; I was only seven, and my parents would not buy them for me. Then I decided to use my mother’s cosmetics and paper my
painting. I was ready to paint my first picture.
After my mum saw what I did with her things, I was told I could not paint again. This put an end tomy idea of using food the next time to make a
picture. After a while, I stopped watching the French painter. It was difficult for me to simply watch him when I was unable to paint my own pictures.

TOMORROW’S CARS
CO2 , a gas that is part of the atmosphere, is important for many parts of nature like plants, as it helps them make their own food. We make CO2 when we use
petrol cars. This is now dangerous for our world because these cars have sent a lot of CO2 into the air. Then, using electric cars instead of petrol cars is one
excellent way to stop problems like changes in the weather. In the United Kingdom not many cars are electric; so the government, those who are the managers
of the country, believes there is a lot to do to make electric cars a good change and have a better world to live in. They also believe that it will help the UK become
the first country in the world to make cars that send much less CO2 into the air.
Some pro-nature groups that work to make the world better believe this plan will not work and say that it is too late to stop CO2 from petrol cars.
In the past two years, the British government has spent billions of pounds studying how to make electric cars and how to make the British use them. Now they

BIG BEN
Big Ben is the nickname of the Great Bell of Westminster, the hour bell of the Great Clock, hanging in the Clock Tower of the Palace of Westminster,
the home of the Houses of Parliament in the United Kingdom. One theory holds that the bell was named “Big Ben” after Sir Benjamin Hall, the Chief
Commissioner of Works. Another theory suggests that at the time anything which was heaviest of its kind was called “Big Ben” after the then-famous
prizefighter Benjamin Caunt, making it a natural name for the bell.
Big Ben is commonly taken to be the name of the clock tower itself, but this is incorrect - the tower is simply known as The Clock Tower. Sometimes,
the tower is referred to as St. Stephen’s Tower, but this title is not used by staff of the Palace of Westminster. The bell weighs 13.8 tonnes (13 tons
10cwt 99lb), with a striking hammer weighing 203.2kg (4cwt), and was originally tuned to E. There is delay of 5 seconds between strikes. It is a
common misconception that Big Ben is the heaviest bell in Britain. In fact, it is only the third heaviest, the second heaviest being Great George found
at Liverpool Cathedral (14 tons 15cwt 2qr 2lb) and the heaviest being Great Paul found at St Paul’s Cathedral (16 tons 14cwt 2qt 19lb). The original
tower designs demanded a 14 ton bell to be struck with a 6cwt hammer. A bell was produced by John Warner and Sons in 1856, weighing 16 tons.
However, this cracked under test in the Palace Yard. The contract for the bell was then given to the Whitechapel Bell Foundry, who in 1858 re-cast
the bell into the 13 ton bell used today. It too started to crack under the 6cwt hammer, and a legal battle arose. After two years of having the Great
Bell out of commission, the 6cwt hammer was replaced with a lighter 4cwt hammer, and the bell itself was turned 90 degrees so the crack would not
develop any further, coming back into use in 1862. However, the crack, now filled, and the turn meant that it no longer struck a true E.
The belfry also houses four quarter bells which play the Westminster Chimes, derived from Handel’s Messiah, in the quarter hours. The C note in the
chime is repeated twice in quick succession, faster than the chiming train can draw back the hammers, so the C bell uses two separate hammers.
427. What other name would you give the text? 430. Which is the heaviest bell in Great Britain?

B. Clock Tower of the Palace of Westminster B. Great Paul
C. Sir Benjamin Hall bell C. Big Ben
D. Famous clock D. Great Diana

TELEVISION
Life is short! Who has time to waste? Not. If you are really honest with yourself you’ll notice that you may be spending too much time on televisión
and there are better things you could be doing. Whether you watch televisión or not is your decisión. But consider this first. Some people say TV is
educational, but it is an ineffective medium for learning. Though there is a great variety of programs and sometimes they are interesting, many TV
shows offer information that is not accurate. If you really want to learn something, you should read it for yourself.
TV can help you keep informed and it is necessary to know what is happening with people and places around you. However, if you watch the average
news program, you have to waste a long time on useless information. If you really want to be up-to-date, read the newspaper; it is more detailed
and you can choose which stories you read.
The average adult spends about: 2 hours a day watching TV. Let’s say you lived to age 60; you would have spent 5 years of your life ¡n front of the
television. Not only could you be catching up with your family during that time, since watching TV with them it is not real interaction, but you are also
preventing yourself from having new experiences. Do you know what you could do with those extra years? Here’s some advice: create some art, talk
to people, exercise, learn a foreign language or how to play an ¡nstrument. Using those two hours a day for something you “don’t have time for,” will
make you have time for a lot more.

Environmental Education
To the editor:
I will mention my position on Environmental Education (EE) in our society.
The ability to work together towards a common goal is absolutely essential and I consider it appears in childhood, when kids get involved in positive
experiences. I have personally discovered how nature acts positively in their development. I used to organize expeditions to natural reservations with my
son and daughter and we would discover magnificient landscape from which we learned a lot. Those occasions were marvelous.
Vincent Simmons, author of “The Natural Rule”, argues how family environmental organizations are a suitable way to get families outside to learn from
nature and to consider the importance of protecting the planet. Families are more likely to go to natural spaces if another family arrangers to go with them.
In Simmons’ opinion, getting involved in such experiences create suitable conditions for working together, and I agree. Children will feel more comfortable
being outside if others their age are involved too. This new approach can also be transferred to schools where children realize the importance of wildlife
and its protection. Students will get to actually see the animals and habitats they are learning about in subjects such as biology or science.
Active involvement in EE should be applied in the classrooms because kids will learn better and recognize its real world application so the would be able,
for instance, to confirm in what region penguins are normally located. Such involvement may be introduced in academic events aiming at discussing
environmental education, so kids could gain more knowledge of how our planet works and what they can do to take care of it.
436. The writer talks about EE in order to 438. The text suggests that in our current world, EE needs
