OCTOBER 2022

A. Narrative Report

“TEACHER’S DAY”

If there is someone who deserves to be appreciated and treated as special,

that would be our dear teachers. Out of all professions, only teachers have a special
day that is commemorated to them and is celebrated worldwide.

The surprise Teacher’s Day celebration was held last October 5, 2022
prepared by the SPG Officers along with the SPTA Officers with the them “Gurong
Filipino, Dangal ng Sambayanang Filipino. It was commenced right after the
induction of SPTA Officers. The program started with a prayer led by Mrs. Liza S.
Esguerra an SPTA member. It was followed by the singing of the national anthem by
the MAES Musikawayan spearheaded by Ma’am Heidi M. Bunag and sir Christian
Jesus A. Manansala. Right after, a quote to ponder was given by SPTA Vice-
Chairperson Jessiree S. Yutuc that is about that what a teacher do encompasses
everything more than what we can imagine. Then, Ma’am Anabel Intal, the school
principal, shared her welcome remarks to everyone. And after which, Hon. Barangay
Captain Jojo Ibe and Hon. Barangay Counselor Mark Christopher Aclan gave some
words of inspiration and encourage for the never-ending sacrifice of the teachers just
for the learners.

Afterwards, several performances and special numbers were dedicated to

our dear teachers including the performance of the SPTA with the school principal,
Ma’am Anabel D. Intal, teachers were serenaded, and of course the participation of
SPG Officers. The SPG President sung a song for teachers together with Ma’am
Manilyn B. Marcelino, while the other officers gave letters, roses and gifts to all the
teachers in Macario Arnedo Elementary School which they all appreciated.

Indeed, teacher’s day celebration espouses the love and appreciation to all
our teachers. They deserve it because their duties and responsibilities that requires
them to always do more of what is required to them because of their compassion
and care to the young lives that depend on them. Because of these, one single day
is not enough to honor everything they do. Hence, its annual celebration should
always be special because that is how they should always be treated and cared for.

Engaging in an activity with purpose is vital to maintain optimum

mental health, as well. Flowers and neighbors are important.
Humanitarian efforts—no matter the scale—like planting inside the
school, cleaning our surroundings, and spreading positivity help to
create and foster a more polite world for us to share. In addition to the
improved mood we get from fresh air, sunshine, and exercise-induced
endorphins, we will also feel uplifted, knowing that we did something
good for the planet.

The SELG Clean-Up Drive is included to the Mandated Programs,

projects and activities of the Youth for Environment in Schools
Organization, pursuant to the DepEd Order no. 93. S. 2011. With this,
the SELG officers made an action in helping the environment and to
contribute to the prevention of global warming and garbage scattering.
The conduct of this activity is to awake the youth on how to take care the
environment and make history that reflects our concern into our
environment.

SELG LEARNING BARKADA:

A JUMPSTART IN LITERACY AND NUMERACY COACHING

As the Covid-19 pandemic affected the education process, it

created challenges for the learners across the world. On the past few
years, Filipino children aged 10 are suffering from learning poverty and
experiencing learning deprivation. In the school year 2021-2022, there
are 302 learners who are identified as non-readers in Filipino subject
(from Grade 3 - 6) while there are 124 English non-readers were
recorded in the Phil-IRI posttest. And 17,861 were identified as non-
numerates in the (Project All Numerates posttest).

Social Constructivism is where learning occurs through social

interaction and the help of others, often in a group. It posits that the
understanding an individual develops is shaped through social
interaction. To decrease the number of non-readers and non-numerates
in the school, Peer-Coaching Activities is included to the Mandated
Programs, projects and activities of the Youth for Environment in
Schools Organization, pursuant to the DepEd Order no. 93. S. 2011.

The conduct of this activity, the SPG officers were assigned to

become the tutor/s of those who are identified as struggling learners.
This activity was utilized of an off-class method where in the tutor is
more advanced learner while the tutee is a lower performing student. In
addition, this activity helps the SPG Officers to develop their leadership
skills and their acts of service. With this, the SPG officers made an action

APRIL 2023

A. Narrative Report

MY HERO STORY

A Hero has no specific shape or size. There is no blue print, no

design pattern, or even a book for a hero to follow. A Hero is just an
ordinary person who does an extraordinary task. We may all have a
different idea of what a hero might be, or what a hero might do and what
defines a hero.
A symposium on My Hero Story was conducted on April 23, 20223
virtually participated by the MAES SELG officers and our school
principal. It was started with preliminary activities such as an opening
prayer, singing of Makabayan song, roll call and giving some food for
thought to ponder. Our school principal, Ma’am Anabel Intal gave a short
glimpse about what our symposium is all about. The said event was
done in order to give knowledge/information about the true essence of
heroism and to inculcate this core values to them through the awareness
they gained in the symposium.
In the symposium, the life story of Dr. Jose Rizal was tackled and
discussed. Jose Rizal who attained the status of national hero in the
heart of many Filipino’s for his immense contribution towards securing
independence for the Philippines from its Spanish colonial overlords. He
was a remarkable man in many respects and left his foot prints in the
sands of time within the short period that he lived. Everybody was
touched and teary eyed to the heroic life and contributions of Dr. Jose
Rizal to the freedom of many Filipinos.

ANTI-SMOKING CAMPAIGN

One of the most common problems today that are killing people, all over the
world, is smoking. Many people start this horrible habit because of stress, personal
issues and high blood pressure. Some people began showing off or some people
wanted to enjoy it . One cigarette can result in smoking others, which can lead to
major addiction. When someone smokes a cigarette they are not only hurting
themselves, but others around them. Smoking does many horrible things to the
human body that most people are not aware of. Almost everyone knows that
smoking causes cancer, and heart disease; that it can shorten your life by 10 years
or more; and that the habit can cost a smoker thousands of dirham’s a year. So, why
people are still smoking? The answer is obviously, addiction. Smoking is a hard habit
to break because tobacco contains nicotine, which is highly addictive. There are
several effects and causes of smoking;

First of all, teenagers smoke because they want to be fit,. Teens see their
friends smoke and they think it makes them look cool or independent plus them. Feel
no tension plus worries. The first cause of smoking which is Nicotine is an addictive
and harmful substance contained in cigarettes. It reduces tension and it is also
believed that it can have a calming effect on people who are anxious and worried.
Although, people smoke when they are depressed, lonely or bored and it helps them
to reduce the stress. Second main cause of smoking is “psychological” (MENTAL)
which seems to be a very important factor for people to get the habit. In many cases,
smoking is started at a young age due to high blood pressure, tobacco. Many people
who start smoking have a family member or close friend who smokes. Smoking is
like a slow death. There are various examples of smoking. Smoking leads to lung
cancer, heart disease, strokes, asthma and wide variety of other diseases. Smokers
experience more coughs and colds as compared to non- smokers. Besides affecting
oneself, it also has a negative impact on others around smokers which is also known
as second hand smoking. Also any pregnant women who are exposed to cigarettes
smoke will have an increased risk of having abnormal baby. Did you ever wonder
what's in the cigarette that millions of people love to smoke every day? Well, there
are over 4000 toxic substances in a cigarette. Some of these are: Arsenic (found in
rat poisons), Acetic acid (found in hair dye developer), Ammonia (found in household
cleaners), Benzene (found in rubber cement), Butane (found in lighter fluid), Carbon
Monoxide (found in car fumes), Hydrazine and Methanol (both found in rocket fuel),
Tar (found in roads).

INFORMATION EDUCATION COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN

A key objective of information, education, and communication campaign

(IEC) interventions is to ensure that local officials and city managers understand the
hazards, vulnerabilities and risks that their cities face so that they can be more
effective in communicating DRM messages to the communities they serve. The city
government led by Congress Woman Anna York Bondoc-Sagum conducted a
seminar in Macario Arnedo Elementary School in Information Education
Communication (IEC) who participated by the SELG officers, YES-O officers and
with the selected pupils from grades 4-6. The seminar aimed to provide necessary
knowledge and skills so that they can fulfill their mandates as technical resources
and focal points for standard messages and materials on disaster awareness.
The IEC campaigns help to develop their partner community by fostering a
culture of open discussion, knowledge dissemination and risk communication based
on scientific findings and practical knowledge; providing a platform to encourage the
participation of stakeholders, open scientific debate, knowledge and information
sharing; disseminating risk information through appropriate channels such as online,
print and mass media; providing hazard information to users of information such as
the academe, training providers, media outlets, and other key organizations and
individual; and fostering partnerships with other organizations to support IEC
activities.
