Assam Judicial Service (Grade III)


Syllabus 2020

Eliaibility Criteria;
Must be holder of a Degree in Law granted by a
recognized University established by law in
India.
Must not have completed, as on the last date
fixed for receipt of applications 43 years of
age in the case of candidates belonging to
Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes and
38 years of age in the case of others.
• A candidate must be a citizen of India as defined in
Articles 5 & 6 of the Constitution of India.

• Detail scrutiny of the applications will be made


after the declaration of the result of the main
written examination. Hence the candidature of the
applicants will be subject to furnishing true &
correct information against the fields indicated in
the online application form and fulfillment of the
criteria mentioned in the advertisement.
Suppression of any material facts and submission
of any false documents will be entirely at the peril
of the candidate.
• Selection Criteria
• The Competitive Examination shall consist of a
Preliminary Examination (Screening Test), a
Main (Written) Examination and a Viva
Voce/lnterview.
• Those candidates who will secure 60% or more
marks in the Preliminary Examination shall be
eligible for appearing in the Main Examination:
Provided that the ratio on the basis of
which the candidates will be called for the Main
(Written) Examination shall be 1:10. (for one
post 10 candidates will be called).
• Alf candidates who obtain 60% or more
aggregate marks in the Main Written
Examination subject to securing at least 45%
marks in individual Paper-I, Il, Ill & IV and
minimum 35% marks in the Official Language
Paper (Paper-V) shall be eligible for Viva Voce:
Provided that Schedule Caste/Schedule
Tribe candidates who obtain 50% or more
aggregate marks in the Main Written
Examination subject to securing minimum
40% marks in individual Paper-I, Il, Ill & IV
and minimum 35% marks in the language
paper (Paper V) shall be called for Viva Voce.
• The marks secured in the language paper shall
be qualifying in nature and shall not be counted
in the aggregate marks secured by the candidates
in the examinations for the purpose of final
selection.

The ratio in which the candidates will be called


viva voce/interview is
1:3 (3 candidates against 1 post) subject to marks obtained
as stated above.
Interview/Viva Voce: 50 Marks.
The candidates shall have to secure minimum 60%
marks in the interview.
The final evaluation will be in order of merit
subject to overall suitability of the candidate.

The Preliminary Examination (Screening Test)
shall consist of objective type questions of 100 marks,
out of which 90 marks will cover General Knowledge,
Aptitudel English, Constitution of India, Code of Civil
Procedure, Code of Criminal Procedure, Transfer of
Property Act, Indian Contract Act, Indian Penal Code,
Indian Evidence Act, Law of Torts and remaining 10
marks to test the proficiency in the Official Language(s)
of the State of Assam (Assamese).

CHHATTISGARH JUDICIAL SERVICE

Examinations Scheme
The Examination shall be conducted by the
CGPSC in three parts for the aforesaid post. In the
first part Preliminary Examination shall be conducted to
restrict the number of candidates to the
reasonable limit for the Main Examination.

(1) Question paper for Online Preliminary Examination


shall be of 100 marks and will consist of 100 objective type
questions. Each question will have four
options for answer, out of which one option will be
the correct answer.

(2) Candidates shall have to tick the correct option.

(3) Online Preliminary Examination Paper (Objective


Type) shall be evaluated as per entries made on online
exam to be assessed on Computer.

(4) The language of question paper of Online Prelimi


nary Examination and Main written Examination
will be English and Hindi.

(5) The relatively more meritorious candidates from


among those who appeared in the Online Prelimi
nary Examination in the ratio of 1:10 having regard
to the number of vacancies shall be declared quali
fied for appearing in the Main Examination. The
candidates obtaining equal marks as obtained by the
last qualified candidates shall also be declared as
qualified, though, in consequence the number of
candidates declared as qualified may exceed the
parameter of 10 times the munber of Notified Va
cancies. The same procedure wUl be adopted for Vivavoce
in the Main Examination while declaring the
candidates qualified on the basis of merit possibly
three times against the number of vacancies.

(6) The final selection will be on merit on the basis of


total marks obtaured in the written (Main) Examination and
Viva-voce. The decision of the CGPSC
with regard to calling the candidates for Viva-voce
win be final. The maximum 15 marks are fixed for
Viva-voce.

(7) A candidate belonging to unreserved category has


to secure minimum 33% marks in the viva-voce and
those belonging to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled
Tribes/Other Backward Classes shall be required to
secure minimum 25% marks in the viva-voce.

Note:
(a) There shall be a screening test in the Online
Preliminary Examination to shortlist candidates for
the Main Examination. The mark sheet for Online
Preliminary Examination will not be issued, nor the
marks obtained in that Examination will be added
while preparing merit list of the Main Examina
tion.
(b) The candidates remaining absent in the Viva-voce
shall be disqualified for the selection.

Syllabus for "Main" Exam

(b) Main Examination (Written)


(Time - 3:00 Hour, Marks -100)

For Main Examination, the relatively more merito


rious candidates from among those who appeared
in the Preliminary Examination in the ratio of 1:10
having regard to the number of vacancies shall be
called for Main Examination (Written) to be con
ducted which shall consist of:
(i) Framing of issues and writing of Judgement
in Civil Cases
(Maximum Marks - 40)
(ii) Framing of charges and writing of Judgement
in Criminal Cases
(Maximum Marks - 40)
(iii) Translation:-
(1) English to Hindi-
(Maximum 10 marks)
(2) Hindi to English-
(Maximum 10 marks)

(c) Viva-Voce:-
Relatively more meritorious candidates from
among those who appeared in the Main Examina
tion in the ratio of 1:3 having regard to the number
of vacancies, shall be called for viva-voce to be con
ducted. The maximum marks for Viva-voce would
be 15.
A candidate belonging to unreserved category has
to secure minumun 33% marks in the viva-voce and
those belonging to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled
Tribes/Other Backward Classes shall be required to
secure rninimmn 25% marks in the viva-voce.
DELHI JUDICIAL SERVICE

EXAMINATION
Instructions
PART-I

Delhi Judicial Service Examination will be held in two


successive stages:

(i) Delhi Judicial Service Preliminary Examination (objective


type with 25% negative marking) for selection for the main
examination, and

(ii) Delhi Judicial Service Main Examination (Written) for


selection of candidates for calling for Viva voice.
The Preliminary Examination will be a screening test and
will consist of one paper of multiple objective type carrying
maximum of 200 marks. In the preliminary examination,
general knowledge and aptitude of the candidate,
candidate's power of expression, flare in English, knowledge
of objective type legal problems and their solutions
covering Constitution of India, Code of Civil Procedure, Code
of Criminal Procedure, Indian Penal Code, Contract Act,
Partnership Act, Principles governing Arbitration Law,
Evidence Act, Specific Relief Act and Limitation Act, etc., will
be included.

Minimum qualifying marks in the preliminary examination


shall be 60% for general candidates and 55% for scheduled
castes and scheduled tribes candidates. However, the
number of candidates to be admitted to the main
examination (written) will be ten times the total number of
vacancies advertised.

The marks obtained in the preliminary examination by the


candidates who are declared qualified for admission to the
main examination (written) will not be counted for
determining their final order of merit.

The main examination (written) will be as per the syllabus


prescribed in Part II of the instruction.
Part-II

The Main Examination (Written) will include the following


subjects.
(each subject to carry the number of marks shown against
it)

1. General Knowledge and Language (250 Marks)

2. Civil Law- I (200 Marks)

3. Civil Law- II (200 Marks)

4. Criminal Law (200 Marks)

(1) General Knowledge and Language: This paper shall


comprise of two sections.

Section I : General Knowledge: This is to test the candidate's


knowledge of current affairs etc. (100 marks)
Section II : Language (Essay, Translation and Precise Writing)
. This is to test the candidate's knowledge and power of
expression in English. Credit will be given both for
substance and expression. Conversely deduction will be
made for bad expression, faults of grammar and misuse of
words etc. There will be two passages for translations on in
English which will be required to be translated into Hindi (in
Devanagari Script). The second passage in Hindi (in
Devanagari Script) shall be required to be translated into
English. (150 marks)

(2) Civil Law-l : Indian Contract Act, Indian Sale of Goods


Act, Indian Partnership Act, Specific Relief Act, Hindu Law,
Mohammedan Law, Delhi Rent Control Act and Law of
Torts. (200 marks)

(3)Civil Law-II : Civil Procedure Code, Law of Evidence, Law


of Limitation and Law of Registration. (200 marks)

(4) Criminal Law : Criminal Procedure Code, Indian Penal


Code and Indian Evidence Act. (200 marks)
Part-III

(1) Viva-Voce will carry 150 marks. Only such candidates will
be called for viva-voce who have obtained 40% marks in
each written paper and 50% marks in the aggregate except
in the case of candidates belonging to reserved categories
i.e. Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Physically
Handicapped (BIind / Low vision) ( mobility not to be
restricted) / Orthopedically in whose case the qualifying
marks shall be 35% in each written paper and 45% in the
aggregate.

(2) A candidate of general category must secure minimum


50% marks and a candidate of reserved category i.e.
Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Physically
Handicapped (Blind/Low Vision) (mobility not to be
restricted) / Orthopedically must secure minimum 45%
marks in viva-voce to be eligible for being recommended for
appointment to the service.

(3) The marks obtained in the viva-voce will be added to the


marks obtained in the main Examination (written) and the
candidate's position will depend on the aggregate of both.
HARYANA JUDICIAL SERVICE

Eligibility Criteria : LL.B. Degree


Age Limitation. : 21 years and must not be more than 40
years on
SC/ST/BC. : 5 years relaxation (Upto 45 years)

Scheme of Examination: The examination shall be


conducted in three stages namely:-

(i) Preliminary Examination


(ii) Main Examination
(iii) Viva Voce.

The Preliminary examination will be of the duration of two


hours and will have 120 questions. Each correct answer will
carry four marks and for every wrong answer one mark will
be deducted. However, no credit or discredit will be given
for the questions not attempted.

Papers and syllabus for Preliminary Examination: Questions


in Preliminary examination shall be from the syllabus
prescribed for the main examination in terms of board
rubric of five papers for the main examination and viva
voca. Candidates shall be expected to have a general and
basic knowledge of the main subjects and also the ability to
answer questions on current events of National and
international importance, Indian legal and constitutional
History and governance. Candidates shall also be tested for
their analytical skills and aptitude. The standard of
questions shall be of graduate level.

and their use in sentences (d) Hindi-Essay (e) Grammar

HIMACHAL PRADESH JUDICIAL SERVICE

1. Education Qualification
Candidates who have completed their LLB degree ( 3 year or
5 year ) from a Government (and Bar Council) recognized
University are eligible to apply for MP High Court Civil Judge
Class II recruitment exam.

2. Age Limit
The minimum age limit to apply for MP High Court Civil
Judge Recruitment is 21 Years while the maximum age is 35
years as on the cut off date mentioned in the advertisement
for the year.

MEGHALAYA PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION SHILLONG


Syllabus for the post of Judicial Magistrate Grade III under
Meghalaya Judicial Service
Post Name:- Judicial Magistrate Grade III under Meghalaya
Judicial Service

Age limit:- 21- 35 years as on 01.01.2020. The upper age


limit relaxable up to 38 years for candidates belonging to
SC/ST. No age limit for candidates who
are already in Meghalaya Government Service provided
they entered service within the prescribed age limit.
Pay Scale:- Rs. 27700- 770- 33090- 920- 40450- 1080-
44770/- per month.
Educational Qualification:- LLB Degree from any recognized
University and must have the knowledge of Khasi or Jaintia

Odisha Judicial Service

Overall Plan of Odisha Judicial Service OJS Civil Judge Exam


Direct recruitment to the Cadre of Civil Judges will be
through the Odisha Judicial Service Exam consisting of three
parts; viz- preliminary written examination, main written
examination and Viva-voce interview in the manner
provided in the rules and in accordance with the syllabus as
specified below :-

OPSC Civil Judge Preliminary Exam Syllabus


The preliminary Exam will be of one paper carrying 100
marks with duration of one and half hours with objective
type questions of multiple choice (I.e. 100 questions of one
mark each with negative marks of twenty-five percent of
the marks allotted to a question for every wrong answer) on
the following subjects and the OMR answer sheets will be
scrutinized by computer.

Preliminary Written Examination


(a) Constitution of India;
(b) Code of Civil Procedure;
(c) Code of Criminal Procedure;
(d) Evidence Act;
(e) Indian Penal Code;
(f) Limitation Act;
(g) Transfer of Property Act;

(j) Specific Relief Act.

N.B.: The Commission shall call the eligible candidates for


main written examination who have secured not less than
35 (thirty-five) per-centum of marks in case of Scheduled
Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates and 40 (forty) per-
centum of marks in case of others in the preliminary written
examination.

The main written examination shall be on the following two


compulsory papers and three optional papers. Each of the
compulsory subjects shall carry 150 marks with a duration
of 2.5 (two and half) hours and each of the optional subjects
shall carry 150 marks with a duration of three hours.
Odisha Judicial Service – Civil Judge – Main Written Exam

who have secured not less than 45 (forty five) per-centum
of marks in aggregate and a minimum of 33 (thirty three)
per- centum of marks in each paper in the main written
examination.

Important :
(a) The candidates are required to select any three Optional
Subjects from the drop down box of the online application
form submitted for the preliminary written examination,
failing which his/her application will be rejected. No
correspondence on that score will be entertained.
(b) The optional subjects for the main written examination,
mentioned by the candidate in the online application form,
will be treated as final. No request for change of optional
subject(s) will be entertained.
(c) The candidates shall be allowed to appear at the main
written examination with the optional subjects as
mentioned in the online application form.
VIVA-VOCE INTERVIEW
Interview shall carry 100 (one hundred) marks. Questions to
be asked in the interview may not ordinarily be outside the
syllabus prescribed for the main written examination. In the
interview, questions covering broad national and
international issues and matters of common interest in the
field of Arts and Science may also be asked.

Provided that the names of the candidates shall not be


included in the merit list unless such candidates secure a
minimum of 40% (forty per-centum) of marks in the
Interview.

Eligibility and Age Limit – ODISHA JUDICIAL SERVICE OJS


CIVIL JUDGE RECRUITMENT
(i) A candidate must not be below 23 (twenty-three) years
of age and not above 35 (thirty-five) years of age on the
date mentioned in the official notification. Age relaxation
shall be as per government rules prescribed for the purpose.

(ii) The maximum age limit shall be relaxed by five years in


case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled
Tribe, SEBC and women candidates (Refer to the official
advertisement of the year for details)
(iii) The maximum age limit in respect of departmental
candidates is not more than 39 (thirty-nine) years.

Note : A candidate who comes under more than one


category mentioned above shall be eligible for only one
upper age relaxation benefit, which shall be considered
most beneficial to him/her. The date of birth entered in the
high school certificate or equivalent Certificate issued by
the concerned board/council will be accepted by the
Commission.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE FOR ODISHA


JUDICIAL SERVICE OJS CIVIL JUDGE
(i) A candidate must be a graduate in Law of a University or
Institution recognized by the Government.

(ii) A Superintendent or a Ministerial Officer in the High


Court or any Civil or Criminal Court sub-ordinate to the High
Court or an Assistant Law Officer or Translator of the Law
Department of Government, shall also be eligible for
appearing at the competitive examination for recruitment
to the posts of Civil Judges in Odisha Judicial Service, if
he/she is a graduate in Law of a University recognized by
the State Government, has approved service in the High
Court or in any Civil or Criminal Court sub-ordinate to the
High Court or in the Law department of not less than seven
years by the last date fixed for submission of online
applications for the said competitive examination, has been
recommended by the respective appointing authority; and
is not more than 39 (thirty nine years) of age on the date
mentioned in the official notification.

OTHER ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS FOR OPSC ODISHA JUDICIAL


SERVICE EXAM
(i) A candidate must be a citizen of India;

(ii) He/She must be of good character and of sound health


and free from any organic defect and physical infirmity.

(iii) He/She must be able to speak, read and write Odia


fluently and must have passed an examination in Odia
language equivalent to that of Middle English School
standard (i.e. Class/Standard-VII) within the last date;

(iv) A person who has more than one spouse living will not
be eligible for appointment unless the state government
has exempted his/her case from operation of this limitation
for any good and sufficient reason;

(v) Government servants, whether permanent or temporary


or on probation against a vacancy in permanent/temporary
posts in any department of government, are eligible to
appear at the examination, provided they possess the
requisite qualification and are within the prescribed age
limit. However, they are required to submit undertaking to
the effect that they have informed in writing to their Head
of office/department that they have applied for the

The examination scheme for recruitment to the cadre of


Civil

The Preliminary Examination shall be an objective type

hours and number of questions to be asked in preliminary
examination for Civil Judge Cadre shall be 100. There shall
be no negative marking for wrong answer in the preliminary

To qualify for Main Written Examination of Civil Judge


Cadre, candidates of SC/ST category shall have to secure
minimum 40% marks and candidates of all other categories
shall have to secure 45% minimum marks in the preliminary
examination. The model answer key to the question paper
shall be published on the official website
(http://www.hcraj.nic.in) of Rajasthan High court forthwith
after holding of the preliminary examination. The
candidates having any objection regarding answers given in
answer key may sent objections within 10 days of
publication of answer key on the email address (rhcexam-
[email protected]) of Examination Cell. Such objections may be
considered by the Committee of three persons including the
subject experts, constituted by Recruiting Authority, and
after modifying the answer key, if needed, the final answer
key may be published on the official website of the Court
and result of the preliminary examination may also be
simultaneously declared.

The number of candidates to be admitted to the interview
shall be, as far as practicable, three times the total number
of vacancies category-wise:
Provided that to qualify for interview, a candidate shall
have to secure a minimum of 35% marks in each of the law
papers and 40% marks in aggregate in the main
examination;

Provided further that a candidate belonging to Scheduled


Caste or Scheduled Tribe category, shall be deemed to be
eligible for interview, if he has obtained minimum of 30%
marks in each of the law papers and 35% marks in the
aggregate in the main examination.

3. Interview/Viva Voce
Maximum Marks : 35

In interviewing a candidate, the suitability for employment


to the service shall be tested with reference to his record at
the school, college and university, and his character,
personality, address and physique. The questions, which
may be put to him, may be of a general nature and will not
necessarily be academic or legal. The candidate will also be
put questions to test his general knowledge including
knowledge of current affairs and present-day problems.
Marks shall also be awarded for the candidate's proficiency
in the Rajasthan dialects and his knowledge of social
customs of Rajasthan. The marks so awarded shall be added
to the marks obtained in the written test by each candidate.

It shall be compulsory to appear, in each and every paper of


written test, as also before the interview board for viva
voce. A candidate, who has failed to appear in any of the
written paper or before the board for viva voce shall not be
recommended for appointment.
After interview, a list of the candidates shall be prepared in
the order of their performance on the basis of their
aggregate marks. If two or more of such candidates obtain
equal marks in the aggregate, they shall be arranged in the
order of merit on the basis of their general suitability for
service and their names shall be recommended for
appointment accordingly.

Provided that a candidate of scheduled castes or scheduled


tribes category shall not be recommended for appointment
unless he obtains minimum 35% marks in the aggregate of
written examination and the interview, and, in the case of
other candidates, unless he obtains minimum 40% marks in
the aggregate of written examination and the interview.

WEST BENGAL JUDICIAL SERVICE

Qualification : (i) A citizen of India or such a person of other


nationality as declared eligible by Government of India; (ii)
A degree in Law from any University or Institution affiliated
to any University recognized by the State Government or
the Central Government; (iii) Enrolment as an advocate in
the roll of Bar Council of any State or Union Territory in
India on the date of advertisement for the examination; (iv)
Ability to read, write and speak in Bengali (not required for
those candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali) – vide
Finance Department’s Notification No.1243-F(P) dated
02.03.2016.
Age: Not less than 23 years and not more than 35 years on
the date of advertisement for the examination on
02.03.2019 (i.e. born not earlier than 03.03.1984 and not
later than 02.03.1996). Upper age limit is relaxable by 5
years for SC and ST candidates of West Bengal, by 3 years
for BC (Non Creamy Layer) candidates of West Bengal and
up to 45 years of age for Persons with Disabilities having
physical disability of 40% and above and by 2 years for
candidates who have been in Government service for at
least two years.
CAUTION: As per clause 49 of the Advocates Act, 1961 “an
advocate shall not be a full time salaried employee of any
person, Government, firm, corporation or concern, so long
as he continues to practice and shall, on taking up any such
employment, intimate the fact to the Bar Council on whose
roll his name appears and shall thereupon cease to practice
as an advocate so long as he
continues in such employment”.
“The ‘employment’ spoken of by rule 49 does not cover the
employment of an
advocate who had been solely or in any case predominantly
employed to act and/or plead on behalf

Preliminary Examination : The Preliminary Examination will


consist of one paper of Objective
Type containing 200 Multiple Choice Questions. The paper
will carry 200 marks and will be of 2 1/2 hours’ duration.
The Standard of the paper will be of the level of knowledge
as expected of a graduate in Law of a recognized University.

papers on optional subjects to be chosen by the candidates
from the list of Optional Subjects. Each
compulsory and Optional paper will carry 100 marks and
will be of three hours duration.

Personality Test : 100 marks.


The Preliminary Examination is meant to serve as a
screening test only for the purpose of selection of
candidates for the Final Examination. The marks obtained
by the candidates in the Preliminary Examination will not be
counted for the purpose of determining the final merit list.
The Final merit list will be prepared on the basis of total
marks obtained in the Final Examination and the
Personality Test. There shall be no separate qualifying
marks for any individual paper or for the Personality Test.
The Commission shall have discretion to fix qualifying marks
in the aggregate. In all the answer papers of the Final
Examination due credit will be given for proper economy of
words combined with clarity and effectiveness of
expression and originality of approach.
Deduction of Marks : A deduction of 10% of full marks may
be made from the total marks secured by a candidate in a
particular paper if he/she discloses his/her identity by
writing his/her name, roll number or by putting any
identifying marks inside the Answer Script of that paper.
