Introduction
This School Based Assessment is aimed at discovering the motivational factors underscoring the
franchise operations refer specifically to your objectives of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) in
Trinidad and Tobago. The information presented in this document was obtained via research and
application of knowledge gleaned from class studies. Throughout this paper information is
provided on the motivational strategies employed at the franchise.
Company Profile
(KFC) was first introduced to Trinidad and Tobago (TT) in 1973 by Prestige Holdings Limited
(PHL) but was then acquired by multinational giant Pepsi International who employed various
innovative strategies to ensure that KFC remained a leader in the quick service restaurant (QSR)
industry. PHL is a restaurant management company that operates a chain of restaurants in
Trinidad and Tobago under long term franchise agreements. Their chain of restaurants includes:
KFC, Subway, Pizza Hutt and Starbucks. For purposes of this assignment, the researcher would
be focusing on KFC Trinidad and Tobago (KFC TT). What branch?
To date, KFC TT under PHL employs 500-1000 in over 59 restaurants nationwide. KFC's
original product was pressure-fried chicken, seasoned with “Sanders'” signature recipe of “11
herbs and spices.” KFC has expanded its menu to offer other chicken products such as chicken
fillet sandwiches and wraps, as well as salads and side dishes such as French fries and coleslaw,
desserts and soft drinks; the latter often supplied by PepsiCo. Being a franchise, the operation is
run by PHL whose departments are vast and varied but includes product and engineering, HR,
finance, Health, Operations, Marketing and Sales.
Business Success
With over 50 years in operation, KFC TT has maintained its commitment to creating exciting
new products with Trinbagonians in mind, which is the cornerstone of its product innovation
focus. The invention of the cruncher sandwich which is now a global menu staple is an example
of the success of their innovative strategies. Delving deeper into what makes the
business/franchise a success, this researcher intends to explore the motivational tactics employed
by the franchise in an effort to determine whether there is a correlation between its motivational
strategies and its business success. OMIT
Motivation
Motivation can be defined as the encouragement and stimulation of people to pursue mutual
goals and objectives. (State source of definition) Managers, leaders and company executives
generally must motivate their employees to achieve organizational success.
Research shows that employee motivation is key in the successful running of any organization. It
can be described as the level of drive, commitment and energy that a company’s workforce
brings to their roles every day (State source of this statement) Without motivation, companies
experience reduced productivity, lower levels of output and it is likely that the company will fall
short of reaching those all-important goals.
As per their annual report, PHL recorded profits for their post COVID periods ending 2022,
which would indicate successful deployment of business strategies inclusive of motivation, sales,
marketing, innovation. As this paper aims to dissect the motivational strategies and its
correlation to business success, this researcher intends to uncover the specific employee
motivational strategies employed and how they contributed to its success. OMIT

Motivational Strategies Use later for the Analysis
Motivational strategies are defined as tactics and processes put in place to keep employees
inspired, engaged, and interested in their responsibilities. Ways of motivating employees will
vary by workforce, based on different work environments, work cultures, and industries.
The effectiveness of KFC TT Motivational Strategies Use later for the Analysis
Using the general markers researchers propose to spot motivated employees, this researcher finds
that KFC TT employees are generally unmotivated. Some tell-tale signs that an employee has
become demotivated include:
Lack of punctuality – arriving late to work, or an increased time to start work after
arriving at the office
Change in mood towards colleagues
Increased absence from work
Inappropriate or negative comments
Lack of input and focus in team meetings
Increasing reluctance to take on more responsibility than the 'bare minimum’
Personal Insight
This researcher is unclear as to the specific strategies employed at the organization and thus will
need to employ research methods to uncover same. The importance of uncovering the
motivational strategies employed by KFC TT specifically to this researcher lies solely in
understanding the work culture in Trinidad and Tobago, especially as it pertains to large
conglomerates and corporations. This understanding will allow for a more seamless transition
into the world of work as expectations of the Employer can be managed. Moreover,
understanding these strategies allows for the researcher to learn and apply same to personal and
academic development. Motivational techniques can help individuals increase their engagement
and performance in various tasks and contexts. Some examples of such applications include but
is not limited to:
Developing the ability to focus on the process more than the outcome
Respecting one’s autonomy which helps you feel more in control of choices and actions
Helps promote empathetic communication which helps in understanding and respecting
different perspectives and feelings
Impact on Community
Employee motivation can have significant impact on the community in which they operate as it
can create value for both the business and society as a whole. Examples of this include but isn’t
limited to:
Motivated employees deliver better products and services which enhances customer
satisfaction and loyalty
Motivated employees drive innovation which can contribute to economic growth and
development of the community
Motivated employees are more prone to engaging in social responsibility initiatives such
as partnering and participating in community or charity groups; this can improve the
social and environmental well-being of the community.
You can refer to this in your Introduction for impact on the community
Methodology Refer to the guidelines given in class to reorganize this section
This researcher aims to uncover the motivational strategies employed at KFC TT and determine
its effectiveness, and avenues for improvement. OMIT Primary data is the first-hand gathering of
data by the researcher. The method that will be used for primary data collection for this paper
will be observation of the employees’ interactions at various KFC TT branches NO You used an
interview and a survey/questionnaire. Additionally, interviews with branch managers and
randomly selected employees will be conducted to gather the qualitative data
The questionnaire will be designed specifically to understand the motivational strategies, if any,
at play and how they contribute to boosting employee motivation in the workplace. These
questionnaires will consist of both closed and open ended questions. A total of 16 questions will
be reviewed and answered by management candidates and 15 by the randomly selected
employees. (Please see appendix for questionnaires).
This researcher believes that questionnaires as a form of qualitative data collection is appropriate
as it is a useful method to collect data from a large number of respondents. Questionnaires
provide standardized, comparable data that is easy to interpret and analyze.
However, it is important to note that this method does have specific limitations which this
researcher has considered. Examples of these limitations include:
