ST E P 1 :

TR AC E Trace the front, crown and horn

templates onto cardboard. Draw a line
TEMPLATES down the center of both the front and
crown templates.

ST E P 2 :

C UT OUT Cut out all of the templates. Make sure

your blade is fresh and pull it along
TEMPLATES evenly. Don’t hack or saw, you want a
clean edge on all of your cuts. If your
knife doesn’t pull and slice easily then
replace the blade with a fresh one.

ST E P 3 :

SC OR E Using your utility knife, score the line

you drew down the center of both the
AND TAPE front and crown pieces. Do this by
inserting the blade into just the first
THE FRON T layer of cardboard to form a shallow
groove, being careful not to cut all the
AND CR OWN way through. Tape over the scoring.
ST E P 4 :

FIT SEAMS Gently bend the cardboard in several

places to more easily form a rounded
TOGETHER shape. Match the front and crown
template at the corner of one eye as
shown in the picture.

ST E P 5 :

TAPE SEAMS Tape the crown and front pieces

together along the entire length of one
TOGETHER seam, first inside, then outside. When
finished with the first seam, repeat with
the other. Finally, bring the back edges
together and tape the inside and the
outside of the seam.*

* At this point, check to see that the helmet fits. If

it’s too small, open the back seam and tape in an
additional strip of cardboard. If it’s too big, open the
back seam and overlap the edges before taping it
up again.

ST E P 6 :

TR AC E TOP Turn the front-crown assembly upside

down and trace the top opening on a
PIEC E piece of cardboard.
ST E P 7 :

C UT OUT TO P Cut the top piece out.

PIEC E

ST E P 8 :

ATTACH TOP Tape the top piece to the top of the

crown, pinching the outer edges
PIEC E together as shown.

ST E P 9 :

SC OR E HOR NS Draw a line down the middle of each

horn, following the curve. Score along
the line.
ST E P 1 0 :

ATTAC H Adjust the horns on the side of the

helmet as shown and tape them both
HORNS front and back.

ST E P 1 1 :

REIN FORC E Check all seams to make sure tape

is firmly in place, and horns are
WITH TAPE secure. Reinforce any weak spots with
additional tape.

ST E P 1 2 :

STORM THE Extra Credit: If you really want to make

the other knights jealous, add papier-
NEAR EST mâché and paint. Make papier-mâché
by mixing 2 parts glue with 1 part water.
CAST L E Rip up small strips of brown paper bag,
no wider than 1.5”. Apply over taped-
edges and all tape, smooth it out and
overlap the wet strips of papier-mâché
as you go. For the smaller details use
thinner strips of brown paper to keep it
smooth. Let dry one hour and paint!
