Content Standards: The learners demonstrate understanding of the different

sources of water suitable for human consumption

Performance Standards: The learners should be able to practice precautionary

measures in planning activities

Learning Competency and Code: Describe the importance of the water cycle

I. Objectives:
At the end of the 50-minute period, 100% of learners are expected to
identify the processes involved in water cycle

III. Learning Tasks:

ELICIT Materials
Ask:
Have you experienced playing under the rain? How did
you feel?

Why do you think rain occurs?

Have pupils tell something about the picture.

Ask:
What do you think causes the water below to go up and
pour down as rain?

How does water cycle occur?

Group Activity Activity sheets

Group pupils into 3 groups. Have them perform the

activity below.

EXPLAIN
Have each group post and report their group answers.

Process the ideas presented by each group.

Ask:
What ideas in each group are similar to others?

How could you further improve your group output?

Describe the following processes involved in water cycle

through PowerPoint presentation.

Evaporation - the sun heats up water in rivers or lakes

or the ocean and turns it into vapor or steam. The water
vapor or steam leaves the river, lake or ocean and goes
into the air.

Condensation-water vapor in the air gets cold and

changes back into liquid, forming clouds.

Precipitation- occurs when so much water has

condensed that the air cannot hold it anymore. The
clouds get heavy and water falls back to the earth in the
form of rain, hail, sleet or snow.

Collection-when water falls back to earth as

precipitation, it may fall back in the oceans, lakes or
rivers or it may end up on land. When it ends up on
land, it will either soak into the earth or become part of
the “ground water” that plants and animals use to drink
or it may run over the soil and collect in the oceans,
lakes or rivers where the cycle starts.

Mathematics Integration:
How many percent of water in Earth is potable water?

Ask:
Which of the stages in the water cycle required energy
from the Sun?
Which of the stages requires water to give off heat?
Which of the stages are driven by the force of gravity?
Post this picture:

Have pupils label the processes involved in water cycle.

Ask:
What are the processes involved in water cycle?
Why is it important to study and understand the water
cycle?

EVALUATE
Identify what process in water cycle is described in each
statement. Select your answer from the words in the
box.
Evaporation collection
Condensation precipitation

________1. Water either soak into the earth and

become part of the “ground water” or may run over the
soil and collect in the oceans, lakes or rivers where the
cycle starts.
________2. The sun heats up water in rivers or lakes or
the ocean and turns it into vapor or steam.

________3. Occurs when so much water has

condensed clouds get heavy and water falls back to the
earth in the form of rain, hail, sleet or snow.

_______4. Water vapor in the air gets cold and changes

back into liquid, forming clouds.

_______5. The water vapor or steam leaves the river,

lake or ocean and goes into the air.

EXTEND
Make a mini-poster showing the water cycle. Label it
with the processes involved in water cycle.
Activity Sheet

Processes Involved in Water Cycle

What you need:

 Glass
 3-4 ice cubes
 cartolina / manila paper
 marker

What to do:

Put some water and 3 to 4 ice cubes into a glass. Let it sit for a few minutes.
Use the glass below to draw on a cartolina/ manila paper and describe what
happened.

Use the following words to label your picture.

 Water
 Ice
 Warm air
 Cold air
 Condensation
 droplets

Questions:
1. What happens to the water after ice cubes were placed?
2. What do the droplets indicate?
3. Differentiate warm and cold air in the activity.
4. How does condensation take place?
5. How do the ice cubes affect the water
