MUFF

Muff is an additional concreting done on top of foundation to prevent accumulation of

water around the mast

NOTE: - The Height of Muff min 10 cm above the top of foundation level except
including slope.

S. No TYPE OF MUFF VOLUME

01 Normal Muff 0.02 cubic meter
02 Balanced Weight (BWA) Muff 0.08 cubic meter

CURING

Curing of Foundation done for the concrete moist continuously 7 days with the help of
jute or gunny bag on exposed surface of foundation.

POINTS REMEMBER FOR CURING

1) Border on Top of Foundation

2) Filling of Water on Top of Foundation

3) Gunny or Jute Bag on exposed Surface of Foundation.

CALCULATION OF VOLUME
CONCRETE, CEMENT IN THE CONCRETE, BAGS OF CEMENT
SAND, AGGREGATE & WATER

1) CALCULATION FOR CONCRETE

Volume of Foundation Concrete = L x B x H

Volume of Foundation Concrete = 2.6629 m3 (assume)

2) CALCULATION F0R CEMENT IN THE CONCRETE

Divide the Volume of Concrete or Foundation by the adding of mix ratio.

Now, Volume of Cement in Concrete = 2.6629 ÷ 7

Volume of Cement in Concrete = 0.3804 m3

Note - Add the number in the mix ratio together (e.g. 1:2:4, 1:3:6)
e.g. Mix Ratio = 1+2+4 = 7

9|P ag e
3) CALCULATION F0R NUMBER OF CEMENT BAGS

No of bags of cement = Volume of cement in the concrete ÷ volume of 1 bag of Cement

No of bags of cement = 0.3804 m3 ÷ 0.035 m3

No of bags of cement = 10.868 (11 bags approx)

Density = Mass ÷ Volume [Density of 1 cement bag (50 Kg) = 1440 kg/m 3]

Density = 50 kg ÷ 1440 = 0.035 m3

So, Volume of 1 bag of Cement is = 0.035 m3

4) CALCULATION FOR SAND

Volume of cement in the concrete x 2 (here 2 is the mixing ratio of sand)

0.3804 m3 ÷ 2 = 0.7608 m3

Qty. of Sand = volume of cement in the concrete x density of sand

Qty. of Sand = 0.7608 m3 x 1762 kg/m3 [The density of sand (DLBD) = 1762 kg/m3]

Qty. of Sand = 1217.28 kg

5) CALCULATION FOR AGGREGATE

Volume of cement in the concrete x 4 (here 4 is the mixing ratio of aggregate)

0.3804 m3 x 4 = 1.5216 m3

Qty. of Gravel needed = volume of cement in the concrete x density of gravel

Qty. of Gravel needed = 1.5216 x 1762 [The density of gravel= 1762 kg/m3]

Qty. of Gravel needed = 2681.06 kg

10 | P a g e
6) CALCULATION FOR WATER

Let assume Water Cement Ratio = 0.45

Required water for 1 bag of Cement = Water Cement Ratio x Volume of 1 Bag

(50kg) of cement

Required water for 1 bag of Cement = 0.45 x 0.035 m3

Required water for 1 bag of Cement = 0.0159 m3

Note, 1 m3 water = 1000 Liter.

So, required water for 1 bag of cement (50kg) = 0.0159 x 1000

Required water for 1 bag of cement (50kg) = 15.9 Liter.

And

Required water for 11 bag of cement (550kg) = 15.9 x 11 Liter.

SOME IMPORTANT CALCULATION FORMULA FOR

VOLUME OF FOUNDATION & MUFFING

1) VOLUME OF FOUNDATION = L x B x H
L1 + L2
x B x H & Same as for Breath and Height.
2

2) VOLUME OF MUFFING = Cuboid + Truncated Pyramid

1
LxBxH+ [A + A𝟐 + √(A𝟏 A𝟐 ] x H m𝟑
𝟑 𝟏

Where
A1 = area of the top base (L x B) m2
A2 = area of the bottom base (L x B) m2

OVERLAPS

In electrical circuits, the series & parallel connection are made using junction box,
twisted of cables, soldering, brazing etc.
This not possible in OHE Contact and Catenary Wire, so we use Overlaps.

1) An arrangement where two set of contact wire runs together in parallel for a
short distance without any mechanical or electrical connectivity.

2) Overlap is the method of joining of two tension lengths without affecting the
value of their individual tension length.

3) In Overlapping zone the pantograph should at least be in touch of both the

Contact Wire for 2m (min.) to 9m

THE OVERLAPS IS EITHER 03 or 04 SPAN

1) 3 Span length Overlap used when radius of curvature is more than 5000 m with
span length more than 54 m

2) 4 Span length Overlap required when radius of curvature less than 5000 m with
span less than 54 m.

TYPES OF OVERLAPS

1) UN INSULATED OVERLAP (UIOL)

2) INSULATED OVERLAP (IOL)

UN-INSULATED OVERLAPS (UIOL)

The overlap where there is permanent electrical continuity between both the OHE. The
distance of separation between two contact wire is 200 mm and the two conductors are
permanently connected together electrically by suitable jumper.

Important points
UIOL is required when continuity of current flow is required between two conductors
whose length is limited.

60 | P a g e
INSULATED OVERLAPS (IOL)

The overlap where there is any switch or switching station connected between both the
OHE. This is used as sectioning arrangement.
The distance of separation between two contact wires is 500 mm.

1) IOL is required for Elementary Section.

2) Normally the electrical discontinuity at IOL is bridged by Interrupter or Isolator
except at Neutral Section.
3) Locations of IOL at Isolator, Yard, and Neutral Section & at SSP where two
tension length are connected by an Interrupter.

S. No UIOL IOL

01 Used for Continuity Used for Sectioning made to

corresponding TSS, SSP, Isolator etc.
02 Permanent continuity by G Continuity through switch
jumper (5.60 m from support) (Isolator, BM)

03 Cut in Insulator not Req. Cut in insulator both in Contact &

Centenary wire (2.5 m from support)

04 F jumper not req. F jumper req.

05 No restriction for HTL HTL not exceed more than 600 m
06 UIOL Clearance 200 mm IOL Clearance 500 mm

07 Bend Steady arm not req. Bend Steady arm req. in 4 span overlap to
maintain clearance at central location.

IMPORTANT POINTS

1) The gap between two conductors is decided by requiring the minimum air
clearance for 25 KV.

2) With this clearance it is possible to make one length dead keeping the other
energized by opening the switch normally connects to the lines.
The switch is either an Isolator or Interrupter.

3) Isolator is operated by manually but Interrupter operated by a command from

Remote through Scada.

TURN OUT & CROSS OVER

The point where two parallel rail Track connects with each other.

That connects two parallel rail Tracks, which allowed a train from one track to other
Track.

TYPE OF TURN OUT & CROSS OVER

1) Over Lap Type

2) Cross Type
3) Knuckle Type

OVERLAP TYPE - Used in Yards, fit for speed not exceeding 100 km/h

1) In this the contact wire of Main line and Turnout track run along parallel to each
other for some distance.

2) Both contact wire never cross each other.

3) Height of contact wire of T/O is 5 cm more than Main Line.

CROSS TYPE

1) Most suitable arrangement, used in Main Line.

2) In this the contact wire of turn out crosses the contact wire of the Main Line.

KNUCKLE TYPE

1) Used in Yard.

2) This type of cross over may be used where adequate track separation is not
available (less than 150 mm) & may be used as Obligatory Structure.

62 | P a g e
IMPORTANT POINTS

1) Turn out Span should not be more than 54 meter.

2) The height of Main Line contact wire at obligatory Structure is H, then the height
of turn out or Cross Over contact wire should be H + 5 cm

3) The contact wire of T/O OHE is 5 cm above that of Main Line OHE that touches
the both OHE for a short distance min. 2 – 3 meter.

4) This difference of height of M.L and T/O contact wire should be maintain in
Overlapping Zone & danger Zone.

5) When Panto moves from Main Line to T/O or T/O to Main Line, then the stagger
should be in between 650 to 720 mm from center line of pantograph to be measured

6) Location of G jumper should be 5.60 m away from the obligatory structure in

overlapping zone.

7) Stagger of ML on tangent track should be +-200 mm

8) Stagger of T/O should be +- 300 m

2) OVERLAPPING ZONE

That point where main line rail meet Turn Out Rail.

3) DANGER ZONE

Zone of 10 m length from obligatory structure to towards Turn out or Cross over.

IMPORTANT POINTS

1) A stagger of 200 mm to the contact wire of the M.L track towards Turnout track
2) A stagger of 300 mm to the contact wire of the Turnout towards M.L track
3) Therefore at this location the track separation is 700 mm.

S. No POINT OF TAKE OFF POINT OF TAKE ON

1 When Panto of train moves from When Panto of train moves from
