Connecting Everyone and
Everything, Everywhere
Wi-Fi is one of the greatest technology success stories, embraced by users at home, work, and on the go.
Wi-Fi economic value will grow to more than $5 trillion USD by 2025, and Wi-Fi has proven to be a key
driver of digital resilience and innovation, providing benefits for established and developing economies.
Wi-Fi's inherent strengths, new solutions, and additional spectrum will help ensure Wi-Fi continues to
connect global users for years to come.
Wi-Fi Alliance drives Wi-Fi success with thought leadership, spectrum advocacy, and industry collaboration
to ensure that Wi-Fi provides reliable, high-performing, and secure connectivity. Wi-Fi Alliance is focused on
quality user experiences that underpin Wi-Fi success and enrich the lives of billions of users.
Wi-Fi 6E unlocked the unlicensed 6 GHz band for Wi-Fi, and Wi-Fi 7 will maximize its potential. Wi-Fi 7’s
advanced features work together to deliver higher data throughputs and support deterministic latency
for sophisticated use cases that demand first-rate reliability, especially crucial with the rise in immersive,
media-rich experiences like multi-user gaming and ultra-high definition video streaming. Wi-Fi 7 will
deliver more advancements in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands, and countries that make the
entire 6 GHz band available to Wi-Fi will benefit from its maximum potential. Wi-Fi is holding strong as
the preferred choice for wireless connectivity, and Wi-Fi in 6 GHz fuels innovation for the future.
In October 2023, Wi-Fi Alliance surpassed a momentous 80,000 Wi-Fi product certifications, bringing
scores of high-quality Wi-Fi CERTIFIED devices to users worldwide. With an estimated 19.5 billion Wi-Fi
devices in use in 2023 and immersive, engaging experiences on the rise, the demand for connected
applications like access points, smartphones, AR/VR/XR technology, and IoT devices is only expected to
increase. Wi-Fi CERTIFIED helps ensure these products meet high industry standards for interoperability
and security to support a superior user experience.
Wi-Fi CERTIFIED products have completed rigorous testing and offer benefits across the Wi-Fi ecosystem.
Certified interoperability supports lower return rates, higher customer satisfaction, and increased
sales volumes. Certifying a product through Wi-Fi Alliance demonstrates a company’s commitment to
providing the best experience for their customers through high quality devices.
This certification milestone was achieved at a pivotal time for the Wi-Fi industry, including the addition
of new Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 testing to support authorization of 6 GHz standard power devices and
forthcoming Wi-Fi 7 certification in the first quarter of 2024. Reaching this certification landmark
means more high-quality Wi-Fi devices are available to meet user needs.

Spectrum Policy – provided clear evidence that allowing Wi-Fi access to the entire 6 GHz frequency
band advances environmental sustainability goals in combating climate change. The study demonstrates
that with sufficient access to spectrum, Wi-Fi outperforms cellular networks in delivering broadband
connectivity with significant reductions in energy consumption and environmental footprint. Given that
FTTH / Wi-Fi 6 FTTH / Wi-Fi 6 the majority of connectivity occurs indoors, Wi-Fi combined with FTTH is the most cost-effective and
sustainable solution as FTTH networks are 2.5x more energy efficient per megabyte transmitted than
5G. According to this analysis, allowing Wi-Fi access to the entire 6 GHz band in Europe would eliminate
3.2 megatons of CO2 emissions per year, with similar results expected in other parts of the world.
