Beth Emhoff. 2. Why did her husband NOT get infected? He was immune. 3. What was the role of the CDC in the film? The role of the CDC was to provide a vaccine to slow and limit the spread of the disease, as well as track the disease to ensure protection further. 4. What part does private industry play in fighting this epidemic? They made a stable cultured version of the virus and produced a vaccine. 5. What is the worldwide organization that deals with the outbreak? The World Health Organization. 6. What role does social media play in the outbreak? It told people to stay inside and call the hotline if they come down with symptoms. This is so the epidemic doesn’t spread further, they know how many people are infected, and see where the illness has reached. 7. What were the origins of this virus? A bat came in contact with a pig and spread it to humans. 8. What were the modes of transmission? Airborne and contact. 9. Would this virus be categorized as an emerging virus? Why? Yes, emerging diseases start from microorganisms that transfer from animals to humans. 10. How realistic do you think this film was and why? I think this film is very realistic, just by looking at history there are many cases of illnesses spreading through a group of people whether that is a town, country, or even worldwide. Death and mourning were portrayed very well throughout the movie, as well as the anxiety and stress that come from the unknown when dealing with a spreading illness. 11. How can we currently relate to this movie? What was the pandemic/epidemic that was very similar to this movie? I can relate to this film being that we were in a worldwide pandemic in March of 2020 due to similar origins of the virus described in the movie. Additionally, the Coronavirus had taken the lives of many making the movie very relatable. The part regarding social media and its impact on the spread and control of the virus and information regarding could be seen in that period of our lives as well. 12. What year did this movie come out? What year did we see a similar situation? Contagion Movie Questions The movie came out in 2011, we had the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. 13. Give me 3 new things you learned about viruses spreading for this movie. 1. I understood what a vaccine was and its purpose, but I didn’t know how they were created, tested, and then distributed. However, after watching the movie I have a decent understanding. 2. I thought you gained immunity from a virus by getting diagnosed with it then recovering and having those antibodies, but as we can see in the movie you can just be naturally immune. 3. I learned about how much we touch things every day and then how often we touch our face, foods, or any other objects that can transfer bacteria into our bodies. It made me more aware of my actions.
