Only qualified personnel should install and service the equipment. The installation, starting up, and servicing
of heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning equipment can be hazardous and requires specific knowledge and
training. Improperly installed, adjusted or altered equipment by an unqualified person could result in death or
serious injury. When working on the equipment, observe all precautions in the literature and on the tags,
stickers, and labels that are attached to the equipment.
WARNING
Proper Field Wiring and Grounding Required!
Failure to follow code could result in death or serious injury. All field wiring MUST be
performed by qualified personnel. Improperly installed and grounded field wiring poses FIRE
and ELECTROCUTION hazards. To avoid these hazards, you MUST follow requirements for field
wiring installation and grounding as described in NEC and your local/state electrical codes.
Failure to follow code could result in death or serious injury.
WARNING
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Required!

hazards.
• Before installing/servicing this unit, technicians MUST put on all PPE required for the work
being undertaken (Examples; cut resistant gloves/sleeves, butyl gloves, safety glasses, hard
hat/bump cap, fall protection, electrical PPE and arc flash clothing). ALWAYS refer to
appropriate Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)/Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and OSHA
guidelines for proper PPE.
• When working with or around hazardous chemicals, ALWAYS refer to the appropriate MSDS/
SDS and OSHA/GHS (Global Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of
Chemicals) guidelines for information on allowable personal exposure levels, proper
respiratory protection and handling instructions.
• If there is a risk of energized electrical contact, arc, or flash, technicians MUST put on all PPE
in accordance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, or other country-specific requirements for arc flash
protection, PRIOR to servicing the unit. NEVER PERFORM ANY SWITCHING,

General Information
This section provides the following product information for the power supply module:
• Product description
• Dimensions
• Clearances
• Codes and standards compliance
• Specifications
The PM014 power supply module provides 24 Vdc forTraneinter-module communication (IMC)
buses. IMC buses are used in components ofTrane building automation systems (BAS), such as
theTracer™ SC system controller and theTracer™XM30 expansion module, and other equipment.
The PM014 uses a full-wave rectifier. It is designed to safely share power with a device that uses
half-wave rectification within the transformer limits. The power supply module has four
connections that provide power to an IMC bus:
• Two four-pin IMC pin connections for use with wiring harnesses.
• Two four-pin IMC terminal blocks for use with field wiring.

Pre-Installation
This section provides the following pre-installation information:
• Mounting location
• Transformer considerations
• Recommended configurations
Mounting Location
Important: The power supply module must be mounted onto a DIN rail inside an enclosure that
meets all local electrical codes.
Observe the following:
• The enclosure must allow for the minimum 1.8 in. (4.6 cm) vent clearance around the top and
bottom of the power supply vents.
• The mounting location must meet the temperature and humidity specifications of the power
supply as outlined in Table 3, p. 9.
• Do not mount the power supply module on a flat surface, such as on a floor or on top of a table.
Mount in an upright position with the front facing outward.
Transformer Considerations
Follow these guidelines when using transformers:
• Transformers must be class 2 rated.
• Non-class 2 transformers must be fused appropriately.
• Fully loaded power supply modules require 75 VA transformers.
The transformer size can be reduced for smaller loads on the power supply module; however,
transformers less than 20VA should not be used. Table 3 shows the recommended transformerVA
based on the PM014 output current.

Installing the Power Supply Module
Installation of the power supply module must be performed by qualified personnel. Work must be
in conformance with this document and local codes.
Before mounting the power supply module:
• Ensure that the DIN rail has been installed in the mounting location.
• Ensure that the enclosure allows for the minimum 1.8 in. (4.6 cm) vent clearance around the top
and bottom of the power supply vents.
Follow these steps to mount the power supply module:
1. Perform the lockout/tagout procedures for line voltage power to the electrical cabinet.
NOTICE:
Avoid Equipment Damage!
Do not use excessive force. Excessive force could cause equipment damage.
2. Do not use excessive force. Excessive force could cause equipment damage.
3. Hook the power supply module DIN rail groove to the edge of the DIN rail closest to the IMC
pin connectors (Figure 3).
4. Press down on the side of the power supply that holds the DIN rail latch. Press until you hear
the latch click.
5. Place a DIN rail end-stop at each end of the row of modules to prevent shifting.

Note: The maximum wire length for 18 AWG wire is 50 feet (15 m). Longer lengths result in
excessive voltage drop and would then require 16 AWG wire.

WARNING
Hazardous voltage!
Connection to voltages beyond ratings will cause shock and fire hazards and damage
anything connected to the power supply.
2. Remove the lockout/tagout from line voltage power to the electrical cabinet.
3. Apply power.
Note: Initially, the power supply module may take up to 10 seconds to start. Subsequent starts take
approximately 2 seconds.

Operation and Troubleshooting
This section describes normal operations and troubleshooting for the power supply module.
Operational Features
• A status LED indicates the status of the output voltage. When lit, it indicates that the power
supply has started properly and that the output voltage is above minimum level.
• If power is lost, the output voltage will remain within the specifications outlined in Table 2, p. 8
for at least 50 ms.
• The power supply module can tolerate a brief short circuit on the output and will auto-retry after
removal of the short. The average input current is approximately 2 A if the power supply module
output is shorted out.
Note: There are no serviceable components inside the power supply module. Replace upon
failure.
Troubleshooting
During normal operation, the status LED on the power supply module will illuminate green
continuously. The following table contains status LED activity indicators and suggested
troubleshooting solutions for non-normal status LED modes.
If the following troubleshooting recommendations reveal no problems, you may need to replace
the power supply module. Remove the power supply as instructed in “Repositioning or Removing
the Power Supply Module,” p. 12.
