QUESTION 2 5 marks
Ryno and Wian share a big box of smarties. Ryno takes 54 smarties and Wian takes 90.

2.1. Write down the ratio of number of smarties that Ryno took to the number that Wian
took and simplify. (2)

2.2. They decide to rather share the box of smarties in the ratio 5:7. How many smarties
will Wian receive now if Ryno still receives the smaller number? (3)

QUESTION 3 12 marks
The Silver Falcons have different formations that they fly in. One of these formations is in the form
of a “W” as shown below:

This formation can be big or small depending on the number of aeroplanes participating:

3.1. Complete the table by simply writing the correct value next to the question number on your
answer sheet:
Formation number 1 2 3 5 n
Number of planes 5 9 3.1.1. 3.1.2. 3.1.3.
(4)
3.2. th
What number of planes will be needed to form the 25 W-pattern? (2)
3.3. Will 50 planes also be able to form the W-formation? Support your answer with a
calculation. (3)
3.4. Suppose the planes fly in 2 V-formations separate of each other rather than a
W-formation. Would it then be possible for 50 planes to form this double-V formation?
Support your answer with a calculation. (3)
