Course Description:
The course focuses on the fundamentals of language, culture, and international culture to
the most useful models and theories. This course also emphasizes the need for deeper
understanding of global challenges by examining them through the lens of language and
culture. The course focuses on cultivating an open-minded attitude towards cultural
diversity and biases through thoughtful discussions and exposure to diverse perspectives.
Students will apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios and explore the reciprocal
relationship between language and culture being observed in business and corporate
settings.

Course Objectives:
The course aims at enabling students to
▪ understand essential concepts, practices, and implications of organizations’ global
communication patterns.
▪ Critically examine how languages shape cultural identity and influence societal
perceptions.
▪ Examine the complexities of multicultural/societal discourse.
▪ Apply the obtained knowledge in a real-world/corporate setting.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of semester, students will be able to:
▪ develop an understanding of the relationship between language and culture.
▪ define and give examples of key terms and concepts of international culture and
language.
▪ understand the significance of culture and language in global business.
▪ engage in discussion to make informed judgments on issues related to barriers in
language and culture.
▪ apply analytical skills for employing global business models in Pakistan’s business
arena.

▪ Explore the scope of research and review the literature on a research topic (of their
choice) and synthesize and critique the literature in a research project/presentation.
