MOST REV. RAMON ARGUELLES, DD

Archbishop Emeritus, Archdiocese of Lipa

1
Commentator: I wish that my Face
which reflects
the deep pains of My Soul,
the sorrow and love of My heart

into the heart of those persons and
by means of My Holy Face,
the salvation of many souls
will be obtained.”

Bp Ramon: We are gathered today,
as one family and one
community, in thanksgiving
to the God of love,
who has shown us
the Most Holy Face of
His only begotten Son, Jesus.
In this Eucharistic Celebration,
we asked God that,

we may truly live
in fullness of love
and communion which God
holds out for all mankind.

Bp Ramon: Brethren (brothers and sisters),

let us acknowledge our sins,
4
and so prepare ourselves
to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
People: I confess to almighty God
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Bp Ramon: May almighty God

have mercy on us,
forgive us our sins,
and bring us to everlasting life.
People: Amen.

Father, You wanted
Your only Son to become man,
showing us in His
human nature a perfect
image of Your divinity.
We pray that uniting
ourselves with Him in the

we may come to contemplate
forever His glorious Face
in the joy of the resurrection.
We ask this through
our Lord Jesus Christ,
your Son, who lives and
reigns
with you in the unity
of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
People: Amen.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

First Reading Is. 50: 4-7

7
The Third song of Yahweh states, “I did not cover my face against the insult and I
know I will not be ashamed.” This message is also echoed by the prophet Isaiah in
today’s First Reading.

A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah

The Lord has given me
a well-trained tongue,
that I might know how to speak to the weary
a word that will rouse them.
Morning after morning
he opens my ear that I may hear;
and I have not rebelled,
have not turned back.
I gave my back to those who beat me,
my cheeks to those who plucked my beard;
my face I did not shield
from buffets and spitting.

The Lord God is my help,

therefore I am not disgraced;
I have set my face like flint,
knowing that I shall not be put to shame.

The Word of the Lord!

Responsorial Psalm Ps 128

R : I look for sympathy, there was none;
For consolers, not one could I find.
8
1.For your sake I bear insult, and shame covers my face.
I have become an outcast to my brothers,
a stranger to my mother’s sons,
Because zeal for your house consumes me,
and the insults of those who blaspheme you fall upon me.R.
2. Rescue me out of the mire; may I not sink!
May I be rescued from my foes and from the watery depths.
Let not flood-waters overwhelm me,
nor the abyss swallows me up,
Nor the pit closes its mouth over me.R.
3. Answer me, O Lord, for bounteous is your kindness;
In your great mercy turn toward me,
hide not your face from your servant;
In my distress, make haste to answer me.
Come and ransom my life;
as an answer for my enemies, redeem me. R.
4. You know my reproach, my shame and my ignominy;
Before you all my foes; insult has broken my heart,
and I am weak;
I looked for sympathy, but there was none;
for comforters and I found none.
Rather they put gall in my food,
and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
For they kept after him who smote,
and added to the pain of him you wounded. R.
5. I will praise the name of God in song,
and I will glorify Him with thanksgiving:
“See, you lowly ones, and be glad; for you who see God,
may your hearts be merry! For the Lord hears the poor
and His own who are in the bonds He spurns not.” R.

Second Reading Phil. 2: 6-11

He humbled himself to become like us and God raised him on high. Jesus, who offered
himself for us all because of love is the Jesus, whom St. Paul wants all believers to meet.

9
A Reading from the Letter of Paul to thePhilippians
Your attitude must be Christ’s:
though he was in the form of God
he did not deem equality with God
something to be grasped at.
Rather, he emptied himself
and took the form of a slave,
being born in the likeness of men.
He was known to be of human estate,
and it was thus that he humbled himself,
obediently accepting death,
death on a cross!
Because of this,
God highly exalted him
and bestowed on him the name
above every other name,
So that at Jesus’ name
every knee must bend
in the heavens, on the earth,
and under the earth,
and every tongue proclaim
to the glory of God the Father:
JESUS CHRIST IS LORD!
The Word of the Lord!
Gospel Acclamation
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Let your Face shine on us, O Lord,
and we shall be saved.
Alleluia! Alleluia!

Gospel Jn. 19:27-38

A Proclamation from the Holy Gospel according to John

10
Jesus, realizing that everything was now finished to bring the
Scripture to fulfillment said, “I am thirsty.” There was a jar
there, full of common wine. They struck a sponge soaked in
this wine and some hyssop and raised to his lips. When Jesus
took the wine, he said, “Now it is finished.” Then he bowed
his head, and delivered over his spirit.
Since it was the Preparation Day the Jews did not want to have
the bodies left on the cross during the Sabbath, for that Sabbath
was a solemn feast day. They asked Pilate that the legs be
broken and the bodies be taken away. Accordingly, the soldiers
came and broke the legs of the men crucified with Jesus, first of
the one, then of the other. When they came to Jesus and saw
that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. One of
the soldiers thrust a lance into his side, and immediately blood
and water flowed out. (This testimony has been given by an
eyewitness and his testimony is true. He tells what he knows is
true, so that you may believe.) These events took place for the
fulfillment of the Scripture:
“Break none of his bones.”
There is still another Scripture passage which says:
“They shall look on him whom they have pierced.”

The Gospel of the Lord!

BLESSING OF THE BOOK OF THE GOSPEL

Commentator: Please remain standing for the blessing of the Book of the Gospels..

HOMILY
Commentator: Please be seated for the Homily of His Excellency, Most Rev. Ramon
Arguelles, DD. Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Lipa.
PROFESSION OF FAITH
Commentator: Please all rise for the Profession of Faith.

I believe in one God, the Father almighty,

maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
11
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (bow)*
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.*
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom
will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen!

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

Bp Ramon: The Lord in His mercy has let

the radiance of His Face dispel the darkness
12
of our times. Let us earnestly address our
prayers to Him as we say:
Lord by your Holy Countenance, renew the
face of the earth .
Or
Lord, hear our prayer.
1. For all the clearly and the consecrated persons, that as
servant leaders, may they be molded into the likeness
and holiness of Jesus, the Eternal High Priest; and as
evangelizers, be a significant and credible presence of
God. Let us pray to the Lord.
2. For all men and women having key positions in
government and business, may they announce and give a
faithful witness to the perennial evangelical message to
humanity the path to authentic peace. Let us pray to the
Lord.
3. For the suffering humanity; the poor, the sick, the dying, the
victims of injustice and calamities, the marginalized and
the rejected, may they experience God’s presence in their
moments of need. Let us pray to the Lord.
4. For the young people, who are constantly exposed to
influences of secularized culture and messages contrary
to the Gospel, may they continue to thirst for
authenticity, goodness, and truth grounded in the
Gospel. Let us pray to the Lord.

5. For our relatives, friends, benefactors and sponsors, that

they may receive the fruit of redemption as their reward
for the service they render to the other people. Let us
pray to the Lord.

13
6. For all the Sisters, the Crusaders, the Young Apostles, Little
Friends and Devotees of the Holy Face of Jesus that they
may be strengthened in their faith and be more zealous in
promoting the devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus through
their life of witnessing. Let us pray to the Lord.
7. For all of us gathered here and for our intentions: that we
may be prepared to observe the forthcoming Lenten
Season and abstain from what we do not really need by
stripping of our sinful selves and doing away with all
dissentions. Let us pray to the Lord.
8. For our beloved dead, that through Christ’s Passion, they
maybe brought to the glory of the resurrection Let us
pray to the Lord.

Bp Ramon: Father, hear the prayers o f your

people. Give us lively faith, an open heart,
and great charity for all. May your constant
presence impel us to heed the call to proclaim
Christ and His Gospel by word and the
testimony of our lives. We make our prayer
through Christ our Lord. Amen.
People: Amen.

LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

Bp Ramon: Blessed are you,

Lord God of all creation,
14
for through your goodness
we have received the bread
we offer you :
fruit of the earth
and work of human hands,
it will become for us
the bread of life.
People: Blessed be God for ever.

Bp Ramon: Blessed are you,

Lord God of all creation,
for through your goodness
we have received the wine
we offer you:
fruit of the vine
and work of human hands,
it will become
our spiritual drink.
People: Blessed be God for ever.

Bp Ramon: Pray, brethren,

that my sacrifice and yours
15
may be acceptable
to God, the almighty Father.
People: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands
for the praise and glory of his name,
for our good and the good of all his holy Church.

PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS

Bp Ramon: O God, our Father,

look on the Face of Your Son,
Who offered Himself
as a victim for us.
Grant that, while we offer You
the same Immaculate Victim,
we may also become
victims pleasing to You.
Through Christ our Lord.
People: Amen.

PREFACE OF CHRIST, PRIEST AND VICTIM

Bp Ramon: The Lord be with you.

16
People: And with your spirit.

Bp Ramon: Lift up your hearts.

People: We lift them up to the Lord.

Bp Ramon: Let us give thanks

to the Lord our God.
People: It is right and just.

Bp Ramon: It is truly right and just,

our duty and our salvation,
at all times to acclaim you,
O Lord,
but in this time above all
to laud you yet more gloriously,
when Christ our Passover
has been sacrificed.

By the oblation of his Body,

17
he brought the sacrifices of old
to fulfillment in the
reality
of the Cross and,
by commending himself to you
for our salvation,
showed himself the Priest,
the Altar, and the Lamb of
sacrifice.

Therefore, overcome with

paschal joy, every land,
every people exults
in your praise
and even the heavenly Powers,
with the angelic hosts,
sing together the unending
hymn of your glory,
as they acclaim:
SANCTUS
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest!
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest!

18
CANON II

Bp Ramon: You are indeed Holy, O Lord,

the fount of all holiness.
Make holy, therefore,
these gifts, we pray,
by sending down your Spirit
upon them like the dewfall,
so that they may become for us
the Body and ✠ Blood
of our Lord Jesus Christ.

At the time he was betrayed

and entered willingly
into his Passion,
he took bread and,
giving thanks, broke it, and
gave it to his disciples, saying:
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU,
AND EAT OF IT,
FOR THIS IS MY BODY,
WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP
FOR YOU.
In a similar way,
19
when supper was ended,
he took the chalice and,
once more giving thanks,
he gave it to his disciples,
saying:

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU,

AND DRINK FROM IT,
FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE
OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW
AND ETERNAL COVENANT,
WHICH WILL BE POURED
OUT FOR YOU
AND FOR MANY
FOR THE FORGIVENESS
OF SINS.
DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

Bp Ramon: The mystery of faith.

People: We proclaim your Death, O Lord,
and profess your Resurrection
until you come again.

20
Bp Ramon: Therefore, as we celebrate
the memorial of his Death
and Resurrection, we offer you,
Lord, the Bread of life
and the Chalice of salvation,
giving thanks that you have
held us worthy to be in your
presence and minister to
you.
Humbly we pray that,
partaking of the Body and Blood
of Christ, we may be gathered
into one by the Holy Spirit.

C 1: Remember, Lord, your Church,

spread throughout the world,
and bring her to the fullness
of charity, together with
FRANCIS, our Pope,
and JOSE, our Bishop
with Bishop Ramon,
and all the clergy.

21
C 2: Remember also our brothers
and sisters who have fallen asleep
in the hope of the resurrection,
and all who have died
in your mercy: welcome them
into the light of your face.
Have mercy on us all, we pray,
that with the Blessed Virgin Mary,
with St. Joseph,
her most chaste spouse
with the blessed Apostles,
and all the Saints
who have pleased you
throughout the ages,
we may merit to be coheirs
to eternal life,
and may praise and glorify you
through your Son, Jesus Christ.

22
Bp Ramon: Through him,
and with him,
and in him,
O God, almighty Father,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours,
for ever and ever.
People: Amen.

23
CANON III

Bp Ramon: You are indeed Holy, O Lord,

and all you have created
rightly gives you praise,
for through your Son
our Lord Jesus Christ,
by the power and working
of the Holy Spirit,
you give life to all things
and make them holy,
and you never cease to gather
a people to yourself,
so that from the rising of the sun
to its setting a pure sacrifice
may be offered to your name.

24
Therefore, O Lord,
we humbly implore you:
by the same Spirit
graciously make holy
these gifts we have brought
to you for consecration,
that they may become the Body
and ✠ Blood of your Son
our Lord Jesus Christ,
at whose command we celebrate
these mysteries.

For on the night he was betrayed

he himself took bread,
and giving you thanks,
he said the blessing,
broke the bread and gave it
to his disciples, saying:

TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU,

25
AND EAT OF IT,
FOR THIS IS MY BODY,
WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP
FOR YOU.
In a similar way,
when supper was ended,
he took the chalice,
and, giving you thanks,
he said the blessing,
and gave the chalice
to his disciples, saying:
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU,
AND DRINK FROM IT,
FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE
OF MY BLOOD, THE
BLOOD OF THE NEW
AND ETERNAL
COVENANT, WHICH WILL BE
POURED OUT FOR YOU AND
FOR MANY FOR THE
FORGIVENESS OF SINS.
DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

26
Bp Ramon: The mystery of faith.
People: We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection
until you come again.

Bp Ramon: Therefore, O Lord,

as we celebrate the memorial
of the saving Passion of your
Son, his wondrous
Resurrection
and Ascension into heaven,
and as we look forward
to his second coming,
we offer you in thanksgiving
this holy and living sacrifice.

Look, we pray,
upon the oblation of your
Church and, recognizing
the sacrificial Victim by whose
death you willed to reconcile
us to yourself, grant that we,
who are nourished by the Body
and Blood of your Son and
filled with his Holy
Spirit,
27
may become one body,
one spirit in Christ.
C 1: May he make of us
an eternal offering to you,
so that we may obtain
an inheritance with your elect,
especially with the most
Blessed Virgin Mary,
and with St. Joseph,
her most chaste spouse.
with your blessed Apostles
and glorious Martyrs
and with all the Saints,
on whose constant intercession
in your presence we rely
for unfailing help.

28
C 2: May this Sacrifice of our
reconciliation, we pray, O Lord,
advance the peace and
salvation
of all the world. Be pleased to
confirm in faith and charity
your pilgrim Church on earth,
with your servant FRANCIS,
our Pope and JOSE our Bishop,
With Bishop RAMON,
the Order of Bishops, all the clergy,
and the entire people
you have gained for your own.

Listen graciously to the prayers

of this family, whom you have
summoned before you:
in your compassion,
O merciful Father,
gather to yourself all your children
scattered throughout the world.

29
Bp Ramon: Through him, and with him,
and in him,
O God, almighty Father,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours,
for ever and ever.
People: Amen.

30
COMMUNION RITE

Bp Ramon: As beloved children of God,

rejoicing in the love
of the Most Holy Face of Jesus,
let us pray to the Father
in the words our Savior gave us:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Bp Ramon: Deliver us, Lord, we pray,

from every evil, graciously grant
peace in our days, that,
by the help of your mercy,
we may be always free from sin
and safe from all distress,
as we await the blessed hope
and the coming of our Savior,
31
Jesus Christ.
People: For the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours now and for ever.

Bp Ramon: Lord Jesus Christ,

who said to your Apostles:
Peace I leave you,
my peace I give you;
look not on our sins,
but on the faith of your Church,
and graciously grant her peace
and unity in accordance
with your will.
Who live and reign
for ever and ever.
People: Amen.

Bp Ramon: The peace of the Lord

be with you always.
People: And with your spirit.

Bp Ramon: Let us offer each other

the sign of peace.
(Agnus Dei) Lamb of God

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,

have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,
have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,

32
grant us peace.

Bp Ramon: Behold the Lamb of God,

behold him who takes away
the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called
to the supper of the Lamb.
People: Lord, I am not worthy
that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word
and my soul shall be healed.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Bp Ramon: Let us pray…

United around Your table,
we pray, O Lord,
may Your Face shine upon us,
so that guided by Your word
and nourished
by Your heavenly bread,
we may be strengthened
in our faith
by the power of Your cross
and resurrection.
33
Through Christ our Lord.
People: Amen.
