Abstract
The purpose of the study was to investigate the correlation
between gadget usage and academic performance among
students. This exploration aimed to discern whether the
increasing prevalence of gadgets like smartphones, tablets,
and laptops positively or negatively impacts academic
achievement.

The research questions revolved around the frequency and

nature of gadget use, the time allocation between academic
tasks and gadget usage, and the resulting impact on students'
grades and overall academic performance. Suggestions for
future research included longitudinal studies to track changes
over time, qualitative inquiries into the nature of gadget use,
and interventions to mitigate negative effects.

The main findings indicated a nuanced relationship between

gadgets and academic performance, with excessive usage
correlating with lower grades in some cases, but also
potentially serving as educational tools when used
purposefully. The conclusion emphasized the need for
balanced gadget usage and highlighted the importance of
digital literacy and self-regulation skills for students in the
digital age.

CHAPTER I
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
What do smart devices do? Are they really as smart as they claim to be? Smart devices can ease
life's burdens and offer a little enjoyment, but they also make it harder for individuals to
concentrate on their tasks. In contrast, a book provides comprehensive information and accurate
facts because it was written to meet the needs of educational institutions across the globe

People claim that technological devices change the world. Many people have lately acquired it
the most. This will demonstrate the actual power of modern technology. The purpose of our
research is to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of its work with regard to students and
to make clear the true implications to students in higher education. We developed this topic
because we noticed how dependent students are on their technology. "Electronic gadgets are the
instruments which can perform many activities at once with vast speed & makes the hard work
efficient one," some of them are shown in the accompanying figure. Life necessities like a
computer, TV, phone, pen drive, etc. are readily available. These tools assist us by simplifying
paperwork, providing entertainment, facilitating communication, etc. But not just this; practically
every industry has found these tools to be helpful. Many equipment, ships, airplanes, and
industrial processes are run by electronic devices. They are also utilized to specify requirements
for carrying out any works. (Agrawal, S. (n.d.). The influence of Electronic Gadgets in Student

INTRODUCTION
Technology has always been developing over time. It has significantly changed people,
particularly in terms of lifestyle. It has been a popular resource for news and entertainment.
Students in our generation are totally enamored with technology. They typically want to
purchase the most recent model of these devices to satiate their needs for enjoyment and to
obtain the most recent of the new. As a result, students frequently use technology in their daily
activities, including their education. The amount of time students spend using technology vs
studying seems to have an impact on their study habits and academic success.
A mobile phone is a wireless device that most people these days use on a daily basis. Having a
mobile phone makes one more productive and intellectual. In today's modern age, gadgets have
become a way of life and are a basic necessity for everyday lifestyle. It helps them greatly by
making tasks easier and faster. It greatly aids students by making tasks more productive and
progressive.
The purpose of the study was to look at how young people utilize technology, including how
much time they spend using it and how emotionally mature and rational they are. Primary data
was gathered from 120 undergraduate students from several colleges in Hubli-Dharwad using a
standardized questionnaire. The David Battery of Differential Aptitude: Reasoning Ability
measures, Singh and Bhargav's Emotional Maturity scale, and the gadget use scale were all used
to collect data. Two groups of respondents were created: More Gadget Users and Less Gadget
Users. For statistical analysis, the test was employed. According to study results, more gadget
users are emotionally mature and have slightly higher reasoning skills. Based on current theories,
the data are interpreted, and future ramifications are highlighted. (Mamatha, Pooja A Hanakeri,
and Vijayalaxmi A Aminabhavi. (2016)
Today, it is normal for young children to utilize devices that have internet connectivity and are
part of their daily lives. Parents allow young children to use electronics for a variety of reasons.
Even if it has advantages, it is evident that internet access really has detrimental consequences on
young children's growth and development. Utilizing technology might even harm children's
development of morality and character, which is something that parents may not necessarily
expect.
The purpose of this study is to discuss how early childhood character education has been
impacted by information, communication, and technology (ICT). The data for this descriptive
qualitative study were obtained through interviews and library research. The outcome
demonstrated that granting device access affects on young children's growth and development
processes. Utilizing technology might even harm children's development of morality and
character, which is something that parents may not necessarily expect. The purpose of this
research is to discuss how early childhood character education has been impacted by
information, communication, and technology (ICT). This study is descriptive qualitative, and the
data were collected in that manner. (Meta Keumala, Marisa Yoestara, and Zaiyana Putri. (2019)
The aim of this research was to evaluate the usage of electronic devices among secondary
school students in different gender groups residing in urban and rural areas of Islamabad. A
comprehensive review of existing literature was conducted to examine the various ways in which
electronic gadgets are utilized. The study encompassed a discussion on both the positive and
negative impacts of these devices on society. In order to investigate the influence of electronic
gadgets on academic performance, a structured questionnaire employing the Likert scale was
administered to collect data. The responses provided by the students were analyzed using
percentages and mean scores. The impact level of the variables was determined through linear
regression analysis using the SPSS package. Additionally, independent sample t-tests were used
to validate the findings. Moreover, the data was analyzed separately to identify any disparities in
academic performance between female and male students.
The findings of the study revealed that the utilization of gadgets had a beneficial effect on
students' ability to learn, thereby improving their academic performance. It is recommended to
promote the positive usage of gadgets while implementing regulations to discourage the negative
use of electronic devices. (Dr. Muhammad Asif Chuadhry, Muhammad Ghazanfar Bhatti and

Statement of the problem:

The study attempts to determine the factors affecting the health and academic performance of the
students by technological gadgets at Ramon Duterte Memorial National High School.
Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions:

1. What are the effects of gadgets among the grade 9 students in terms of:
1.1 Health
1.2 Social Life
1.3 Class Performance
2. What are the reactions of students on the prohibition of gadgets during class and
free time?
3. What are the effects of gadgets on the lifestyle of Ramon Duterte Memorial
National High School students?

Scope and Limitation

The purpose of this research paper is to study the effects of technological gadgets on the students
of Ramon Duterte Memorial National High School.

The use of gadgets in schools has become very common nowadays. It can help students to
increase their thinking and creativity learning tastes and also to have access to the latest
information on different subjects.
On the other hand, technology can also have negative effects on students. Sometimes, mobile
phones can be used in cheating during classroom assessments, it can be used in instant gaming,
messaging, and also using any application may affect the classroom activities.
This study hopes to fill this gap and provide a context to policy makers in schools which they
can base their strategic directions and intervention in use of technology.

CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND
STUDIES
This study presents the related literature and studies both local from foreign and local sources.
This also includes ideas, finished thesis, generalization or conclusions, methodologies and
others. This study review some literature related to the effects of gadgets on academic
performance and health.

According to (Junichi Sato, 2011), a representative of the education board who oversaw the
initiative, which was carried out in conjunction with the city of Sendai and Tohoku University,
this lack of sleep also has an impact on academic performance. The study, which was released in
March, examined the relationship between zeal for learning and smart phone use. It was found
that utilizing a phone for an extended amount of time has an impact even on students who
regularly study a lot.
That implies that the use of mobile phones has an impact on academic performance in ways other
than just sleep deprivation or reduced study time. Students who spent more than two hours a day
studying and using messaging apps, according to a study.
Based to research, excessive mobile phone use affects kids' performance in elementary, junior
high, and high school not only because it impairs their ability to focus as a result to lack of sleep,
but also because it appears to damage what they have learned.

Additionally according to Serra (2012), as this technology is introduced, students are distracted
from their studies and become trapped by the cellphone idol, who demands their attention when
they are trying to sleep, get work done, or have time for themselves. When students use their
phones simultaneously, their sleep is also impacted. They may find it difficult to fall asleep early
because they are still using their phones, and this can have an impact on their academic
performance. Some students are unaware of how crucial sleep is to their ability to use their
brains effectively and operate properly.

Technology is becoming an addiction for people. The biggest problem with technology is that
people can't tell when to stop using it. Although technology benefits us, it may also be the
greatest threat to our well-being (Chaubey, 2014).
This relates from our topic because students get distracted from their studies and technology
device became a caused of it. Due to overuse of technology, they will become diverted from their
studies.
