I would say that my two favorite periods that I enjoyed studying this semester are the

Renissance Era along with the Baroque Era. I enjoyed learning about these two eras because
there were so many similarities between the two but so many differences as well. I liked how the
Baroque Era was building on the things that the Renissance Era had created. I think that these
two periods in art history were focused on realism and people and I love it because you are able
to see so much emotion and powerful messages during these periods. My favorite images from
the Renissance period would have to be the “Mona Lisa'' by Leonardo da Vinci, “David” by
Michelangelo, and “The Birth of Venus” by Sandro Botticelli. Then my favoirte images from the
Baroque period would have to be “Landscape with a Calm” by Nicolas Poussin,”The Night
Watch” by Rembrandt Van Rijn, and “Banquet Still Life” by Abraham
van Beyeren.
I personally like the “Mona Lisa” because it is so realistic. I like
how she is just nicely placed with this background almost painted just
out of his imagination. I mean it doesn’t seem to have a specific area
that she is in. I also like the dark colors but also the oranges and
greens that are in the background.

I like “David” by Michelangelo because of what it symbolizes. It

embodies strength while also showing indpentdance as well. This
is also one of the most popular and greatest pieces of work when
it comes to Renaissance art.

I love “The birth of Venus” by Sandro Botticelli because of

the coloring. There are a lot of different colors going on in
this piece. There are a lot of darker colors as well as
lighter, brighter colors. While looking at this image I get
the sense of beauty and others admire beauty as well.
I love the “Landscape with a Calm” by Nicolas
Poussin because of the natural landscape that it
is. I always love seeing more landscape and
outside world pieces that people create. I love the
darker colors along with the lighter ones as well.
When looking at these pieces though it definitely
does calm me down as it is more of a nature and
the animals are around.

I like “The Night Watch” by Rembrandt because it is so

dark with hints of brighter color. I like it as well
because it shows so much of what might have been
going on during that specific time period. I also love
how realistic this painting is between the way the
people look as well as what they are wearing. I also
enjoy the meaning behind this painting as this guard is
leading his team.

One of the last pieces of art that I enjoy is the

“Banquet Still Life” by Abraham van Beijeren”. I like
this piece because I feel as though we are able to
take our own interpretation from this image. These
images can also lead to many questions when
looking at this image. I mean were there people here
before and this is how they left the table? I do like
seeing the details in this piece because the cloth
hanging off the table does look so realistic.

Overall. I love both of these periods in art history because they are so realistic and also show so
much detail while holding so much meaning. Nowadays though looking back at this art is really
cool because we are able to create our own stories with each piece whether it is a painting or a
sculpture.
