Leadership and Professional

Developing the teaching plan for the D222 performance assessment artifact has enhanced my
leadership skills and philosophy by emphasizing the importance of patient-centered care,
interprofessional collaboration, and evidence-based practice. One key leadership skill I have developed
is the ability to prioritize patient-centered care by tailoring the teaching plan to the individual's unique
needs, preferences, and learning styles. This approach aligns with the transformational leadership
philosophy, which focuses on empowering and engaging patients and families as active partners in their
care (Institute of Medicine (US) Committee on the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Initiative on the
Future of Nursing, 2011). Conducting a thorough assessment of the patient's health literacy, cultural
background, and prior knowledge has taught me to create relevant, understandable, and engaging
teaching plans that promote better health outcomes and patient satisfaction. The IOM (2011) report
significance of nurses collaborating as equal partners with other healthcare professionals in the
transformation of healthcare. Thus, prioritizing evidence-based practice interprofessional collaboration
and patient-centered care will better prepare me to improve outcomes for patients, families, and
communities in the future.

Innovation

Completing Task 1 of the D223 performance assessment artifact has deepened my understanding of the
importance of using data to make informed decisions that impact organizational change and systematic
outcomes. Through analyzing a case study of a hospital facing financial challenges, I learned to apply a
systems-based approach to problem-solving, considering the complex interplay of factors such as
reimbursement models, patient demographics, and care delivery processes. I gained experience in
collecting, analyzing, and interpreting various data types, including financial metrics, quality indicators,
and patient satisfaction scores. One critical insight was the power of data visualization in communicating
complex information to diverse stakeholders. Another important lesson was balancing innovation with
feasibility and sustainability, developing a phased implementation plan with clear milestones and
metrics.

Example of an evidence based approach is Total Quality and Innovation Management in Healthcare
(TQIM-H) framework which constitutes of seven dimensions (Context of the Environment, Leader,
Planning, Support, Analysis Method and Tools, Operation, and Improvement) that guide the systematic
development of healthcare innovations aligned with safety and quality principles (Tonjang &
Thawesaengskulthai, 2022). The "Context of the Environment" dimension evaluates internal operations
and external influences on healthcare innovation. "Leader" emphasizes visionary leadership and
resource allocation for innovation. "Planning" involves detailed strategies with specific goals and
metrics. "Support" ensures necessary resources like funding and training are available. "Operation"
focuses on executing innovation projects with process and risk management. "Tools and Analysis
Method" applies analytical tools for problem-solving and decision-making. Lastly, "Improvement" seeks
continuous refinement and enhancement of innovations. Moving forward, I will apply these innovation
skills and knowledge to my practice as a nursing leader, striving to create a data-driven decision-making
and culture of continuous improvement.

Quality Assurance
Completing the population assessment in Task 1 of the D224 course has enhanced my ability to collect,
analyze, and interpret data to enhance patient outcomes and deliver care that is value-driven to
different population levels. Through a comprehensive assessment of a specific population group's health
status, determinants of health, and healthcare utilization patterns, I gained a deeper understanding of
the various sources and types of data available for population health assessment. Creating a patient-
centered quality assurance framework entails pinpointing the most effective quality management
practices to enhance patient-centered infrastructure, devising methods to accurately capture key
elements of patient-centered care across various clinical settings, and taking a leadership role in
expressing the hospital's dedication to addressing the specific needs of patients. It is crucial to note that
engaging stakeholders, including patients, families, and healthcare providers, should be prioritized in
data interpretation and co-developing solutions to address the unique needs and preferences of the
population served (Hijazi et al., 2018). Another important lesson was engaging stakeholders in data
interpretation and solution generation. Moving forward, I will apply these quality assurance skills to my
practice as a nursing leader, advocating for policies and systems that support collecting, sharing, and
using population health data to drive value-based care delivery and improve health outcomes for all.

Compassionate Holistic Care

Completing the specialty certification in Caring Science, as evidenced by the artifact, has deepened my
understanding of the importance of providing compassionate, holistic, person-centered care that
respects individual and community diversity while considering determinants of health. The certification
program emphasized the core principles of caring science, including the centrality of human caring
relationships, integrating art and science in nursing practice, and promoting healing environments. One
key insight from this certification was the importance of recognizing and honoring each patient and
family's unique lived experiences, values, and beliefs (Pfaff & Markaki, 2017). Through actively practicing
deep listening, cultural humility, and attending to social determinants of health, I have learned how to
create a space where my patients can get actively involved in their healthcare projects. I evaluated the
housing situation, the food security, and the ability to use the transport services, and got my patients
resources, including health facilities that enhance long-term health. This accreditation supported the
relevance of self-care and professional reflection that you need to apply to stabilize wellness and
prevent burnout in the frustrating areas of the world. Moving forward, I will use this new knowledge in
my practice as a professional nurse, striving to create a caring culture that honors all patient's and
families' inherent dignity and worth. I will also seek out opportunities to educate and mentor other
nurses in the principles and practices of caring science, and to advocate for policies and systems that
support the delivery of compassionate, holistic care across the lifespan.
