ECDIS EC-9000 Series Installation Manual

1. Introduction
1.1 Overview
This document describes the installation procedure and information for the ECDIS EC-9000 Series and
ECS ECS-9000 Series.

1.2 About the difference between ECDIS and ECS

Common differences
ECDIS is a electronic chart device that conforms to International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards
by a type approval agency. It replaces paper charts.
The IMO clearly distinguishes similar systems that do not conform to standards by calling them Electronic
Chart Systems (ECS).
ECDIS is installed on international voyage ships that are required to be equipped with ECDIS.
ECS is installed on domestic coastal vessels that are not obligated to install ECDIS.
