Prompting is a technique used to guide or cue an individual’s behavior in order to achieve a

desired outcome. Used in various contexts, including education, therapy, and communication. It
can be verbal, visual, physical, gestural or modeling.

Applications:

o In special education, prompting is commonly used to teach new skills to students


with disabilities. For example, a teacher might use prompts to help a child learn to
tie their shoelaces.

Chaining is a teaching method use to sequence and enable the learner to perform more complex
behaviors. Involves breaking down a complex task into smaller steps or sub-skills. Each
individual step is taught and reinforced until the learner can perform the complete task

Example

In the first example shoe tying. Instead of showing them the entire process at once and Each step
is taught and reinforced until the child can tie their shoes independently.
Chaining is a method used for individuals with special needs, utilizing step-by-step learning
methods and reinforcements, and can be applied at home or school.
