Chapter 1 Introduction

1. Caution in Handling
For using this product correctly and safely
• This Manual describes important items for using the product correctly and safely.
• Be sure to read the important items prior to use and use the product correctly in accordance with
this Manual.
• This Manual should be kept at a place for easy referring after it is read through.

2. Greeting
Thank you very much for your purchasing our product. This Manual describes setting/connecting
methods and functions/specifications, and you are requested to read it through before using the
product.

2) We carefully prepared this Manual but if you have any doubts, please contact our Sales
Department.
3) It should be noted that our company is not responsible for any loss due to the result of using this

Chapter 2 Software

1. Outline
Operating Environment

OS Microsoft®Windows® XP/2000
CPU CPU or higher recommended by the above OS
(Pentium III 700MHZ or higher is recommended)
HDD HDD capacity required by the above OS + 100MB or more
MEMORY Memory capacity recommended by the above OS + 64MB or more
VIDEO SVGA or higher (XGA or higher is recommended):
256 colors or more (16-bit color or higher is recommended)
COM PORT One that operates with the above OS
CD-ROM DRIVE One that operates with the above OS
PRINTER One that operates with the above OS
ADAPTER Keihin original, communication adapter
Operation mode Installation: administrator authority

The capacity of HDD/MEMORY may increase depending on the use environment.

! Caution
This application is only for Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
It does not operate with Windows, Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 98, and Windows ME.

2. Software Installation Procedure
Starting Installer

The installer automatically starts when the CD-ROM is set into the CD-ROM drive. It is also possible
to start the installer by double-clicking on Setup.EXE in the CD-ROM. If the Setup file is downloaded
from the internet, execute Setup.EXE in the specified location. Make sure all other applications are
closed before starting the installer.

When the installer is started, the setup language select dialog is displayed. Confirm the default
selection of language of Windows used (English if there is no relevant language) and go to the next step
with OK . If you want to install in any other language, open the Combo box and select the language.

Checking Install Environment
<Windows 2000> <Windows XP>

When a setup language is selected, your system environment will be automatically checked. Installation
can be proceeded if the below conditions are met, and you will go to the next screen. If the conditions
are not met, an error message is displayed and the installation will be cancelled.

• OS must be Windows 2000 or Windows XP.


• The present logon user must have administrator authority.

“Welcome” Message

When the checking of PC environment, etc. is completed, “Welcome” message is displayed. Go to the
next step with Next .

Checking License Agreement
<Windows 2000> <Windows XP>

The license agreement is displayed. Check the content and click on Yes to go to the next screen.
If No is clicked, the installer ends.

Entering User Information


<Windows 2000> <Windows XP>

Enter the user information (user name, company name). You cannot go to the next screen without
entering this information. Although it is possible to change the installing user (“anyone who uses this
computer (all users)” or “only for me”), keeping the default setting “anyone who uses this computer (all
users)” is recommended for normal use. Go to the next screen with Next .

Confirming Installing Folder

Confirm the installing folder of the application and go to the next screen with Next . The default
folder displayed here is usually fine to use, but if a folder with the name already exists, then the
installing folder can be changed with Browse .

Selecting Install Application

Custom Complete Custom Complete

Installing application select screen is displayed. Normally “Complete” is OK. It is also possible to
install either [DIA] or [FAN] by selecting [Custom], but in such a case, you cannot go to the next
screen without selecting either [DIA] or [FAN]. Go to the next screen with Next .

Checking Installed Content

User information such as user name and program location is displayed. Check the contents and correct
if any error is found, by clicking Back to return to the previous window. The installation starts when
you click Next .

During Installing
<Windows 2000> <Windows XP>

When the installing is started, the work progress situation is displayed. When the installing is
completed, you will go to the next screen.

Installing Completed

The installation completion screen is displayed. Click on Finish to complete.

Checking Shortcut
<Windows 2000> <Windows XP>

When the installation is completed, a shortcut is created on the desk top and start menu.

Chapter 3 Installing Driver

1. Outline
In order to use the Communication Adapter by connecting it to the USB port, a dedicated driver must
be installed. Install it in accordance with the following procedure. When it is used by connecting it
to the serial port, it is not necessary to install this driver.

2. Procedure for Installing Driver (Windows 2000)

If the Communication Adapter is connected to the USB port of PC, a message “Found New Hardware”
is displayed. If you wait for a while, you will go to the next screen.

Installing Driver Software

A folder that contains the driver software needs to be specified. Click on Browse to choose the
folder with khusbd.sys in the CD-ROM, or the folder in which khusbd.sys is saved if downloaded from
the Internet.
When you specify the folder and click on OK , the driver will be installed and the Communication
Adapter will become usable.

3. Procedure for Installing Driver (Windows XP)

If the Communication Adapter is connected to the USB port of PC, a message “Found New Hardware”
is displayed. If you wait for a while, you will go to the next screen.

The method of the driver installation needs to be specified. Select [Install from a list or specific location

(Advanced) ] and click on [Next ]. Select [Search for the best driver in these locations. ] and specify a

search location (CD-ROM or folder). If you click on “Browse ], you can specify the folder. Specify the

folder with khusbd.sys and click on [OK ].

If you click on [Next ], the driver will be installed. A message “KEIHIN DIAGNOSIS ADAPTER has
not passed Windows Logo testing…” is displayed, but you can ignore this message and click on [Continue

Installation Completed

When the driver is successfully installed, the above message is displayed. Close the installer by

clicking on [Finish ]. Just after completion, a message [Your new hardware is installed and ready to

use ] will pop up from the icon for a few seconds.

Chapter 4 Troubleshooting

Installation will not be successful if:


1. The Windows application being used is other than Windows 2000 or Windows XP. This
application is only for Windows 2000 and Windows XP. No installation can be done with
Windows Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 98, and Windows Me. Prepare the Windows
environment of either Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

2. The present user does not have Administrator authority. Installing this application requires
Administrator authority. The logon should be done by a user having Administrator authority.
