The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises issued a notification dated 26th
June 2020 regarding revision of definition of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises
(MSMEs) and process of registration.

MSMEs on the basis of investment in Plant and Machinery/Equipment, an additional
criterion of turnover has been included included. Moreover,, the difference between
manufacturing and services sector has been removed and now both are at the same
level of treatment. This revision is pav

Bharat Abhiyan and growth of the MSMEs.
MSMEs Particularly, the provision of excluding the
exports from counting of turnover is encouraging the MSMEs to export more and more
without fearing to forego

As a result of change in classification criteria w.e.f. 1st July 2020, an Enterprises is
being classified as a Micro, Small or Medium Enterprises on the basis of the following
criteria, namely:-
a) Micro Enterprises: where the investment in plant and machinery or equipment
does not exceed one crore rupees and turnover does not exceed five crore
rupees;
It is a unified portal with registration process free of cost, paperless and digital.
The portal is aimed at redu
reducing transaction time and cost for entrepreneurs and
promotes Ease of Doing Business.
The new MSME registration
egistration process is simple, seamless and entrepreneur
friendly.
All the relevant data is being fetched from Income Tax and GST Networks at
the backend.
Udyam Registration is mandatory to avail benefits under most of the schemes
of Ministry of MSME and availing credit from financial institutions as per RBI
RBI/2020-2021/26 dated 21st August, 2020.

M/o MSME has also commenced API integration of Udyam Registration portal
with GeM so that MSEs can participate in Government procurement easily.
1. The exemption from the requirement of having GSTIN shall be as per the
provisions of the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 (12 of
2017).
2. In case of any proprietorship Enterprises not registered under any Act or
rules of the Central Government or the State Government, the proprietor
may use his or her PAN for registration of the Enterprises in the Udyam
Registration portal and for all other types of Enterprises PAN shall be
mandatory.

Thane (2.5%), Bengaluru (urban) (2.0%), Jaipur (2.0%) followed by Ahmedabad

The highest number of Small Enterprises registrations are from Mumbai district
(3.3%) followed by Bengaluru (Urban) (3.2%), Surat (3.1%),, Ahmedabad (3.1%), Pune
(2.6%), followed by Chennai (2.3%),
( Mumbai Suburban (2.1%) etc.

The top 10 districts having Medium Enterprise registrations are indicated in the
above graph. It can be observed that the highest number of Medium enterprises are
registered in Mumbai district (5.7%), followed by Bengalauru (Urban) (3.8%),
Ahmedabad (3.5%), Kolkata (3.1%),
( Mumbai Suburban (2.9%) and Pune (2.8%)etc.

highest employment among Micro enterprises, the average

The above graph (figure 20)) indicates the state wise distribution of employment in
Medium Enterprises among the top 10 States/UTs.. It can be observed that
Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat have the highest employment in Medium
Enterprises. The average employment per Medium enterprise in top 10 states/UT
is 163.
8. Gender wise distribution
The graph below highlights the percentage distribution of MSMEs on the basis of
Gender ownership. Male owned MSMEs constitute 82%, whereas 17% of MSMEs
are owned by female. The rest share (~1% each) is constituted by other and
unidentified firms.
