SMA8
Conductor-conductor fault in the solenoid actuation circuit.
Requires a special sequence at start of travel, when the
safety relays are closed by the elevator control system. A
conductor-conductor fault can theoretically bridge the con
tact of a safety relay. This situation cannot be detected by
monitoring the return current from the solenoids to the iCon,
because the current flowing back will have exactly the ex
pected value. However, there is a way to detect a conduc
tor-conductor fault circuit despite this problem. When the el
evator control system issues the travel command at the start
of travel, it must then wait for 150 ms (20 ms ±) before it
closes the safety relay. After the iCon receives the com
mand, it applies a small voltage to the solenoid output for a
period of 125 ms. If the safety relay is not yet closed, no cur
rent can flow. But if a current is measured anyway, this
means that the safety relay must be bridged by a conductor-
conductor fault. In this case, the iCon generates an SMA8
error.

IMPORTANT!: The all-important factor is when
the command arrives at the iCon, not when the
command was issued by the elevator control sys
tem!
