Part-B
(Outcomes after Execution)
Title of the Micro-project: ‘Prepare 3D solid Model Assembly and
Details of Non Return Valve’

1.0 Brief description:

1.1. A Non-Return Valve (NRV), also known as a check valve, is a mechanical device
designed to allow fluid (liquid or gas) to flow in one direction while preventing it from
flowing in the opposite direction. Here are some key details about non-return valves:

1.2 Working Principle: Non-return valves operate on a simple principle. They have a one-
way passage that opens to allow fluid to flow in the intended direction due to the force of the
fluid, and it closes to prevent backflow when the fluid tries to move in the reverse direction.
This prevents the reversal of flow, which can be crucial in various systems.

1.3 Types: There are different types of non-return valves, including swing check valves, lift
check valves, ball check valves, and diaphragm check valves. The specific type used
depends on the application and the characteristics of the fluid being controlled inherent
mechanical linkage design versus solid state electronic units.to compile the report in proper
format along with presentation.

 Advantages of Non-Return Valves:

1. Prevention of Backflow: The primary advantage of non-return valves is that they

prevent the reverse flow of fluids or gases. This is essential in applications where
backflow could lead to contamination, damage, or inefficiency.

2. Maintains System Integrity: NRVs help maintain the integrity and performance of
systems by ensuring that fluids or gases flow in one direction only, as intended.

3. Simple and Reliable: Non-return valves are relatively simple mechanical devices that
are robust and reliable. They don't require external power sources to operate.

4. Wide Range of Applications: They are used in various industries, including plumbing,
wastewater treatment, chemical processing, oil and gas, and HVAC systems, making
them versatile and applicable in many settings.

 Applications of Non-Return Valves:

1. Plumbing: Non-return valves are used in household plumbing to prevent backflow,

ensuring that contaminated water doesn't enter the clean water supply.

2. Wastewater Treatment: They are essential in wastewater treatment systems to prevent

the reverse flow of sewage or treated water.

3. Chemical Processing: Non-return valves are used in chemical plants to control the
flow of various chemicals, preventing cross-contamination and maintaining process
integrity.

4. Oil and Gas Industry: NRVs are employed in pipelines and drilling operations to
control the flow of oil and gas, preventing backflow and maintaining operational
safety.

PROCEDURE FOLLOWED:

1. Sketch the Valve Body:

 Create a 2D Sketch: Start by sketching the valve body on the XY plane. This
represents the main housing of the non-return valve.
Use Sketch Tools: Utilize sketch tools to draw the outlines and dimensions of the
valve body. Include features like the inlet and outlet ports, mounting holes, and the
shape of the valve housing.

 Extrude the Sketch: Extrude the sketch to create a 3D body, representing the valve
housing. Specify the thickness of the body according to the design requirements.

2. Add the Valve Flap:

 Create Another 2D Sketch: Sketch the shape of the valve flap (also known as the
disc or gate) on the XY plane. Ensure it fits within the valve body.

 Extrude or Revolve the Sketch: Depending on the design, you may either extrude the
sketch to create a 3D disc or revolve it around a central axis. The disc represents the
part that opens and closes to control fluid flow.

3. Incorporate the Valve Seat:

 Sketch the Valve Seat: Create a sketch for the valve seat, which is the sealing
surface where the disc makes contact when closed. This is typically located inside the
valve body.
 Extrude the Sketch: Extrude the sketch to create a solid valve seat within the valve
body. Ensure it aligns correctly with the disc.

4. Design the Valve Stem and Actuator:

 Sketch the Stem: Create a 2D sketch for the valve stem. This component connects the
disc to the actuator and allows for opening and closing.

 Extrude the Sketch: Extrude the sketch to form the stem. You can add threads or
other features to represent the connection to the actuator.

5. Include the Actuator and Handle:

 Create Sketches: Sketch the actuator, which is the mechanism that controls the
movement of the valve stem and disc. Also, create a handle for manual operation if
applicable.

 Extrude the Sketches: Extrude these sketches to form the actuator and handle
components. Ensure they are correctly positioned relative to the stem and disc.

6. Add Seals and Gaskets:

 Sketch Seals and Gaskets: Create sketches for any seals or gaskets required in the
valve assembly, such as O-rings or packing seals.
 Extrude or Create 3D Features: Depending on the type of seal or gasket, extrude or
create 3D features to represent these components within the valve body.

7. Complete the Assembly:

 Assemble Components: Assemble all the individual components you've created,
ensuring they fit together correctly. Use constraints and joints to establish the
relationships between parts.

 Adjust Clearances: Ensure there are proper clearances between moving parts (e.g.,
disc and seat) and that the valve operates smoothly.
