I. OBJECTIVES

1. To properly dispose waste materials to avoid food contamination.


2. To maintain the cleanliness of premises and suitability of food.

II. GENERAL POLICIES

1. WASTE MANAGEMENT

1.1 Waste management is properly imposed to minimize the


risk of contamination from the raw materials to in process
and finished goods. Refer to COMMIF-001 Cleaning and
Sanitation Monitoring Checklist.
1.2 Personnel responsible (housekeeper) for waste removal shall
be properly trained and knowledgeable to prevent and
avoid food contamination and so they do not become a
source of cross-contamination and managing waste properly
to prevent overflow and accumulate microbial growth.
1.3 Drainage and waste disposal systems and facilities shall be
properly maintained. It shall be designed and constructed so
that the likelihood of food contamination shall be avoided.
1.4 It is important that drainage does not flow from highly
contaminated areas (such as toilets or raw production areas)
to areas where finished food is exposed to the environment.
1.5 The MRF or waste disposal site is located away from the
food establishment to prevent a pest infestation.
1.6 Containers used to hold hazardous substances prior to
disposal are lockable to prevent intentional or accidental
contamination of food.

2. Waste Segregation
2.1 Waste can be classified as:
2.1.1. General Waste
i. Plastics (PE),
ii. food waste,
iii. cartons,
iv. cans,
v. PET bottles,
2.2 At the end of the shift waste shall be collected by the
assigned cleaner or housekeeper to ensure proper
segregation.
2.2.1 Collection of waste is done daily by the LGU.
2.2.2 Hauling and/or collection of recyclables are done
monthly.
2.2.3 Cleaning and sanitation of the MRF shall be done
after every collection of waste or where necessary.

2.3 Hazardous waste is stored in containers (including lids)
made of materials that are compatible with the waste.
Hazardous waste containers are in good condition and free
of leaks or any residue on the outside of the container.
2.4 There is designated storage for hazardous waste which is
located near the MRF. The storage area shall be locked to
prevent contamination and misused of hazardous wastes.
Moreover, containers shall be stored with secondary
containment.
2.5 Hazardous waste containers are labeled with chemical waste
tags by the PCO. Refer to HR PCO JD
2.6 Hazardous waste is transported and treated by 3rd party
DENR accredited facility.

2.7 Disposal Memo and Disposal tag


2.7.1 The Disposal Monitoring Form shall be
accomplished and with proper approval from
relevant authorities to ensure that only allowed
waste shall leave the facility. Refer to FFDI-
COMMIF_020-DISPOSAL MONITORING FORM.

2.8 All in-process wastages shall be declared through product


disposal form. Refer to FFDI-COMMIF-033 PRODUCT
DISPOSAL FORM
2.8.1 All wastages shall be noted by the Production
Head
2.8.2 Actual disposal of product shall be verified by the
authorized representative of the Accounting
Department.
