OIL PRESSURE - ENGINE PROTECTION

CUMMINS

FAULT CODE: 415

PID: P100
SPN: 100
FMI: 1

Oil Pressure Sensor Circuit

DESCRIPTION
The oil pressure sensor is used by the electronic control module
(ECM) to monitor the lubricating oil pressure. The ECM monitors
the voltage on the signal pin and converts this to a pressure value.
The oil pressure value is used by the ECM for the engine protection
system.
Verify, with the driver, the engine speed at which the fault occurs. If
the engine is being operated at too low of a speed, the oil pressure
can drop below the engine protection limits.
Possible causes:
- Low oil level
- Low operation speeds
- Oil dilution
- Oil filters change
COMPONENT LOCATION
The oil pressure sensor is located on the engine block below the
ECM.

TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS
Step 1A) Turn key switch ON and verify the sensor accuracy with a mechanical gauge. Connect a
mechanical oil pressure gauge to the engine. Connect diagnostic tool to the vehicle data link, and start the
engine, and compare the oil pressure reading on the service tool monitor screen to the reading on the
mechanical oil pressure gauge.
NOTE: The engine must be revved up to make it easier to see differences in readings.

Sensor reading correct?

Yes - If sensor reading correct within 5 psi, locate No - refer to Fault code 135 or 141
and repair the cause of low oil pressure
Go to 2A

Step 2A) Connect all components. Turn key switch ON and disable the fault code. Start the engine and let
idle for 1 minute. Verify Fault Code 415 is inactive.

Fault Code 415 inactive?

Yes - Go to 2B No - Return to troubleshooting steps or contact local

Cummins Authorized Repair Location if all steps
have been completed and checked again
Go to 1A

Step 2B) Connect all components., turn key switch ON and clear the inactive fault codes using the
diagnostic tool.
All fault codes cleared?

Yes - Repair is complete No - Troubleshoot any remaining active fault codes

with appropriate troubleshooting steps.
