WORKS OF SHANKARACHARYA:- The great scholar, Shankaracharya wrote three types of
books.

5. Urubhangam 6. Karnabharam.

’ Allthese plays of Bhasa are pleasant the readers different in themes and wellsuited for
stage presentation. These all plays indicates the evolutionary period of Sanskrit Drama.

"Harshavardhana EYCT) became famous bythe three drarme.

’ Harshavardhana wrote three dramas. They are: RATNAVALI, PRIYADARSHIKA and
NAGANANDAM.

RATNAVAL.:- There are four acts in this play. The love between the king of Vatsa Udayana
Sagarika is the main theme of this play. This isfirst play of Harshavardhana. This play reflects
that he was influenced by the play Malavikagnimitra of Kalidasa.
PRYADARSHIKA:-There are four acts in this play. The love between Udayana and Aaranyika
is the main theme of this play. The main source of this play is romance. Perhaps the books
Ratnavali and Priyadarshika are similar.
NAGANANDAM :- There are five acts in this play. In this the story of Jeemuthavahanawas
described. This story narrated about the setf-sacrifice of Jeemuthavahana for the sake of serpants,
the love theme between Malayavathi -Jeemuthavahana and how Shankhachuda was protected
by Garutman etc. narrated.
’ The writing style of Harshavardhana is able to understand readers easily. Each and every
character is well described natural in his works.

’ The scholars opined that he followed Mahakavi Kalidasa in writing books.
