Introduction
I have designed this cowl to be beginner-friendly in colourwork knitting. You start
with a simple pattern, like one stitch alternating for each colour. These few rounds
will allow you to “get in touch” with the two threads held in your left hand. The
difficulty level increases slowly so that knitting this cowl will be fun!

The pattern is written for the small size, with the number for the medium size in
square bracket: Small [Medium].

Instructions
The cowl is worked in the round with circular needles.
Using smaller size needles, 4 mm/US#6 , cast on 96 [120] sts with main colour
(MC), join in the round making sure not to twist sts.
Place marker for BOR.
Work in 1x1 rib (k1, p1) for 6 rnds for both sizes.
Rnd 7 – increase evenly 12 sts:
• for size Small: *k8, m1* repeat around.
• for size Medium: *k10, m1* repeat around.

108 [132] sts on the needles.

Switch to larger needles, 5 mm/ US #8.

With MC & CC start working in stranded pattern according to the chart below.
You will be working 46 rounds. Cut CC leaving a long tail to weave in later.

Switch to smaller needles, 4 mm/ US#6 and knit one round with MC.
Next round: - decrease evenly 12 sts:
• for Small size: *k7, k2tog* repeat around.
• for Medium size: *k9, k2tog* repeat around.

96 [120] sts on the needles.

Work in 1x1 rib (k1, p1) for 6 rnds.

Bind off loosely and weave in ends. Wash the cowl gently and block. Enjoy
wearing it!
