SUBJECT -MATHEMATICS
CLASS = X
CASE STUDY BASED
CASE STUDY-1:
A test consists of ‘True’ or ‘False’ questions. One mark is awarded for every correct answer while ¼ mark is deducted for
every wrong answer. A student knew answers to some of the questions. Rest of the questions he attempted by guessing.
He answered 120 questions and got 90 marks.

Type of Question Marks given for correct answer Marks deducted for wrong answer

True/False 1 0.25

1. If answer to all questions he attempted by guessing were wrong, then how many questions did he answer correctly?
2. How many questions did he guess?
3. If answer to all questions he attempted by guessing were wrong and answered 80 correctly, then how many marks he
got?
4. If answer to all questions he attempted by guessing were wrong, then how many questions answered correctly to score
95 marks?
CASE STUDY-2: Amit is planning to buy a house and the layout is given below. The design and the measurement has
been made such that areas of two bedrooms and kitareas of two bedrooms and kitchen together is 95 sq.m.

Based on the above information, answer the following questions:

1. Form the pair of linear equations in two variables from this situation.
2. Find the length of the outer boundary of the layout.
3. Find the area of each bedroom and kitchen in the layout.
4. Find the area of living room in the layout.
5. Find the cost of laying tiles in kitchen at the rate of Rs. 50 per sq.m
CASE STUDY 3:
Raj and Ajay are very close friends. Both the families decide to go to Ranikhet by their own cars. Raj’s car travels at a
speed of x km/h while Ajay’s car travels 5 km/h faster than Raj’s car. Raj took 4 hours more than Ajay to complete the
journey of 400 km.
1. What will be the distance covered by Ajay’s car in two hours?
2. Represent the situation in form of quadratic equation to describe the speed of Raj’s car?
3. What is the speed of Raj’s car?
4. How much time took Ajay to travel 400 km?
Case study 4
A seminar is being conducted by an Educational Organisation where the participants will be educators of different
subjects.
The number of participants in Hindi ,English and Mathematics are 60,84 and 108 respectively
1.In each room the same number of participants are to be seated and all of them being in the same subject, hence find
the maximum
Number of participants that can be accommodated in each room
2.What is the minimum number of rooms required during the event ?
3. What is the LCM of 60,84 and 108 ?
4. What is the greatest three digit number that is exactly divisible by 5 ?
ASSERTION REASONING

(a) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true and reason (R) is the correct explanation of assertion (A)
(b) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true and reason (R) is not the correct explanation of assertion (A)
(c) Assertion (A) is true but reason (R) is false.
(d) Assertion (A) is false but reason (R) is true.
5 Assertion(A) There exist two numbers whose HCF is 9 and LCM is 365
Reason (R) HCF is always factor of LCM
6 Assertion(A) A quadratic polynomial having 5 and -3 as zeroes is x² − 2𝑥 − 15
Reason (R) The quadratic polynomial having ά and β as zeroes given by p(x) = x² − (ά + β)𝑥 + ά β
7 Assertion(A) 9x + 12y -7=0 and 6x +8y-14=0 form a consistent pair of linear equations
𝑝 𝑞 𝑟
Reason (R) A pair of linear equations px +qy +r=0 fx+gy+h =0 ,has no solution if 𝑓
= 𝑔
≠ℎ
8 Assertion(A) (2x -1)² -4x² +5 =0 is not a quadratic equation
Reason (R) x = 0,3 are the roots of the equation 2x² -6x =0

ART INTEGRATED PROJECT

As a pedagogical initiative , CBSE has introduced Art Integrated Project as a multi-disciplinary PROJECT which is
mandatory in every subject. This project has been designed keeping in mind various art forms for experience based
learning of various concepts in different subjects . Under the ‘ Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat Programme ’ students will be
required to integrate their projects to the art forms of Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands

Historical Sites of Andaman and Nicobar Islands: ( Group A - Odd Roll Numbers )
- Andaman and Nicobar have a rich history dating back since 800 BC. Select any one Historic Site of Andaman and
Nicobar Islands such as Chatham Saw Mill, Cellular Jail, Viper Chain Gang Jail etc
Select one of the historic places of Andaman and Nicobar, study the structure and write the geometrical shaped involved
in their construction. Find the area covered. Make a 3D model of historic place using geometrical shapes.

Historical Sites of Lakshadweep: ( Group B - Even Roll Numbers )

- Lakshadweep stands as the historical relics, reminding of the days faded long ago. Each of the monuments of
Lakshadweep represents the great historical grandeur of this union territory. The tomb of Hazrat Ubaidullah, Moidin
Mosque, Urja Mosque and several Buddhist archaeological remains are some of the major monuments of this island that
attracts millions of tourists over the year. etc.
