Re-thinking Dementia: The Concept of One Health 1

WELCOME MESSAGE FROM ASAD PRESIDENT
On behalf of the Executive Committee and Advisors of the Asian Society Against
Dementia, I warmly invite you to join us for the 18th International Conference
of ASAD which is held in conjunction with the 32nd Malaysian Society of
Neurosciences Annual Scientific Meeting (MSN 2024), 6th Malaysia Stroke
Conference (MSC 2024), 12th Malaysian Paediatric Neurology Update Meeting &
6th BRaINs l BNC Research and Innovations in Neuroscience, at Penang from 15th
to 17th August 2024.

The objectives of ASAD are to promote and encourage the advancement of

scientific knowledge through research and practice in all aspects of dementia,
as well as the exchange and dissemination of this knowledge and expertise
throughout Asia.

This has been achieved in annual conferences which have been held in different
parts of Asia since the first meeting in Chennai in 2007. It is wonderful to return
to Malaysia as the 2012 conference was held in Kuala Lumpur.

The theme of “Rethinking Dementia: The Concept of One Health”, is most

appropriate given recent advances in disease modifying treatment for early
Alzheimer’s Dementia, which now need to be implemented. Moreover, a focus on
good Brain Health across the life course is vital to reducing the large and growing
healthcare burden associated with brain disorders. We must look beyond the
treatment of disorders or rehabilitation by focusing on preventive measures to
decrease the incidence of brain disorders, thus enabling our patients and families
to realise their full potential.

These and many other topics will be part of this exciting conference and I hope
that we can meet together soon in Penang!

Assoc Prof Dr Christopher Chen Li-Hsian

2 18th International Congress of the Asian Society Against Dementia In conjunction with
32nd Malaysian Society of Neurosciences Annual Scientific Meeting (MSN 2024), 6th Malaysia Stroke Conference (MSC 2024),

WELCOME MESSAGE FROM MSN PRESIDENT
Dear colleagues and friends,

It is with great enthusiasm that I extend a warm and purposeful welcome to you
on behalf of the Malaysian Society of Neurosciences as we proudly introduce
the 18th International Conference of ASAD which is held in conjunction with the
32nd Malaysian Society of Neurosciences Annual Scientific Meeting (MSN 2024),
6th Malaysia Stroke Conference (MSC 2024), 12th Malaysian Paediatric Neurology
Update Meeting & 6th BRaINs l BNC Research and Innovations in Neuroscience
- a pivotal gathering centered around the theme, “Re-thinking Dementia: The
Concept of One Health.”

In the ever-evolving landscape of neurology, our comprehension of dementia

stands at the forefront of transformative change. The One Health paradigm
emphasizes the interconnectedness of neurological health, public health, and
environmental influences. This conference serves as a unique crucible for
neurologists to explore inventive perspectives, share groundbreaking research,
and collectively contribute to a holistic understanding of dementia.

Your invaluable expertise and insights are integral to shaping the discourse
around dementia and fostering a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach. We
invite you to submit abstracts that echo the diversity of your work, from clinical
observations to research elucidating the interconnectedness of neurological
health with broader health and environmental contexts.

Together, let us forge new paths in dementia research, guided by the principles
of One Health to magnify our collective impact. I eagerly anticipate your active
participation in this transformative conference, where our collaborative efforts
will chart new territories in understanding and addressing dementia.

Thank you and I look forward to seeing you in Penang next year!

Re-thinking Dementia: The Concept of One Health 3

WELCOME MESSAGE FROM MSC CHAIRMAN
Dear Esteemed Neurologists,

I extend a heartfelt welcome to each one of you as the Chairman of the Malaysia
Stroke Conference (MSC). Today, I am particularly excited to announce the
collaborative endeavor— the 18th International Conference of ASAD which is
held in conjunction with the 32nd Malaysian Society of Neurosciences Annual
Scientific Meeting (MSN 2024), 6th Malaysia Stroke Conference (MSC 2024), 12th
Malaysian Paediatric Neurology Update Meeting & 6th BRaINs l BNC Research
and Innovations in Neuroscience, a convergence of minds and a celebration of
collaboration in the field of neurology.

This conference marks a significant milestone as it brings together the strengths

of not just one, but three esteemed organizations—Malaysia Stroke Council,
Malaysian Society of Neurosciences and ASAD. By fostering collaboration, we aim
to create a synergistic platform where the collective expertise of neurologists
can illuminate new pathways in understanding and addressing neurological
challenges.

Your presence here is more than a participation; it is a commitment to the spirit

of collaboration that defines this congress. As we explore the intersections of
neurology, stroke research, dementia and the broader aspects of health, your
diverse perspectives will contribute to the richness of discussions and insights.
Let us seize this opportunity to forge lasting connections, exchange ideas, and
collectively elevate the impact of neurology research. The ASAD MSN MSC 2024
is a testament to the power of collaboration, and I look forward to witnessing
the transformative outcomes that will undoubtedly emerge from our collective
efforts.

Thank you for joining us on this exciting journey towards a future where
collaboration propels the field of neurology to new heights.
