DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN PRACTICAL RESEARH 2 – GRADE 11

I. OBJECTIVES

After this lesson, the students will be able to:

A. Define quantitative research
B. Describes characteristics, strengths, weaknesses of quantitative research.
C. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of quantitative research.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

TOPIC: Nature and Inquiry of Research

CONTENT: The characteristics, strengths and weaknesses of quantitative research.

III. MATERIALS
PowerPoint presentation, Laptop

IV. PROCEDURE

Teacher’s activity Students activity

A. Preparation
I. Prayer Heavenly Father…
Before we start may ask (name of student) to
lead a prayer.
II. Greetings Good morning/afternoon ma’am!
Good morning/afternoon class!
So, how’s your day? Is it good so far? It was great Ma’am!
That is good to know, class
III. Checking attendance

So, are you ready to discuss our new topic today? Yes ma’am.

Okay, that’s good! Let us begin this with a Simple Yes ma’am
activity. Are you ready?

Great!

B. LESSON PROPER
1. MOTIVATION
Before we start our discussion let us do picture
analysis, look at the picture and analyze the
message implied to fill the missing letters.
Picture analysis Expected answer
1. QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH USES N_M_ _ R NUMBER
2. RESEARCH FINDINGS ARE SUBJECTED TO STATISTICAL TOOL
S_A_I_T_ _ AL T_O_S OBJECTIVE MEASUREMENT
3. QUATITATIVE RESEARCH involves O_J_C_I_E
ME_S_RE_E_T_

Thank you for your active participation class!

2. DISCUSSION
Now shall we proceed to our lesson? Yes ma’am.

Good!

And for the discussion please listen carefully, our

topic for today is all about the different
CHARACTERISTICS, STRENGTHS, and
WEAKNESSES OF QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH but
before anything else what is RESEARCH is all
about?
Student’s Volunteer to answer
Anyone?

Very good!

So the word research was coined from the French

word “cerhier” which means seek. The prefix “re”
means to repeat looking for something.

 Research is to repeat looking for

something.
 Research signifies finding the truth

The main purpose of research is to inform action,

to prove a theory, and contribute to developing
knowledge in a field or study.

It is also called academic research, when an

academic research can be quantitative in its
approach.

 It means that information are obtain and

presented in numerical form and
analyzed through the use of statistics.
So what is quantitative research?

A Quantitative research methods emphasize

objective measurements and the statistical,
mathematical, or numerical analysis of data
collected through polls, questionnaires, and
surveys, or by manipulating pre-existing statistical
data using computational techniques.
Importance
 Quantitative research is used to populate
statistics from a high volume sample size
to gain statistically valid results in
customer insight. It's important to ensure
a suitable sample size is used to gain
accurate and trustworthy results.
Purpose
 The purpose of quantitative research is to
generate knowledge and create
understanding about the social world.
Quantitative research is used by social
scientists, including communication
researchers, to observe phenomena or
occurrences affecting individuals

CHARACTERISTICS OF QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH

1. Objective
2. Clearly defined Research questions
3. Structured Research Instrument
4. large sample
5. Replication
6. Future outcomes

STRENGHTS OF QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH

1. Respondents’ identity can be anonymous
2. Provides consistent data
3. Uses structured instruments
4. Numerical data can easily analyze
5. Quantitative studies are replicable

WEAKNESSES OF QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH

1. Requires a large number of respondents
2. It is costly
3. Other data are ignored
4. Much information is difficult to other
5. Data from questionnaires may be
incomplete and inaccurate
3. COMPREHENSION CHECK UP Expected answers
State True or False
1. Research is to repeat looking for something. 1. True
2. A Quantitative research methods emphasize 2. True
objective measurements and the statistical, 3. false
mathematical, or numerical analysis of data. 4. True
3. Quantitative is subjective. 5. False
4. Quantitative research is used by social
scientists, including communication researchers,
to observe phenomena or occurrences affecting
individuals
5. Quantitative is more focused on exploring the
issues, understanding the actual problem and
enabling oneself to answer all the questions

4. ANALYSIS Expected answers

Ask the following questions:
1. What is quantitative research and its
importance? Quantitative research is used to populate
statistics from a high volume sample size to gain
statistically valid results in customer insight. It's
important to ensure a suitable sample size is used
to gain accurate and trustworthy results.
2. What is the purpose of a quantitative
research?
The purpose of quantitative research is to
generate knowledge and create understanding
about the social world. Quantitative research is
used by social scientists, including
communication researchers, to observe
phenomena or occurrences affecting individuals

5. GENERALIZATION

What is the purpose of research?

The main purpose of research is to inform action,
to prove a theory, and contribute to developing
knowledge in a field or study.
Very Good!

What are the characteristics of quantitative

research? Objective
Clearly defined Research questions
Structured Research Instrument
large sample
Replication
Good Job! Future outcomes

6. APPLICATION
Explain the importance of quantitative research.
Answer in 3 to 5 sentences.

V. EVALUATION
Put a check (/) if it describes the characteristics of
quantitative Research.
(Expected answers)
1. Data is in the form of words, pictures or
objects.
2. The data is usually gathered using structured 1.
research instruments. 2. /
3. It is not based upon numerical measurements 3.
and does not use numbers and statistical 4.
methods as key research indicators and tools. 5. /
4. It tends to be associated with small-scale 6. /
studies and a holistic perspective, often studying 7.
a single occurrence or small number of 8. /
occurrences/case studies in great depth. 9.
5. The research study can usually be replicated or 10. /
repeated, given its high reliability.
6. Data are in the form of numbers and statistics,
often arranged in tables, charts, figures, or other
non-textual forms.
7. Emphasis son discovery rather than proof.
8. The results are based on larger sample sizes
that are representative of the population.
9. It tends to be associated with emergent
research design, using a wide range of
approaches *
10. Researcher has a clearly defined research
question to which objective answers are sought.

VI. ASSIGNMENT
Answer the following questions comprehensively.
1. Discuss the strengths of a Quantitative
Research.

2. Discuss the weaknesses of a Quantitative

Research.
