(C) Retardation of loss of moisture (D) All options are correct
Calcium chloride (CaCl2): It is an admixture of an accelerator category. These
kind of admixtures accelerate the hydration reactions in concrete and increase
the rate of strength gain. Thus, CaCl2 is the prime additional constituent of
rapid hardening cement.
Mechanism of CaCl2:
 CaCl2 increases the hydration reaction, so formation of CSH gel is

increased. This accelerates the rate of strength development which ultimately

leads to increased strength.

 CaCl2 enables concrete to gain strength and to set very quickly which

reduces the curing period as curing is done until concrete gains most of its

strength.

 As concrete sets quickly and most of available pore water is already used

up in hydration process, so addition of CaCl2 reduces the rate of the loss of

moisture due to evaporation.
