What is stationery?

Stationery refers to
writing materials such as
pens, paper, paper clips
etc.
Paper
There are several types of paper, the most
common being:
1. Flimsy- non expensive, most common
2. Bond – thick and durable
3. Carbon – used to make copies
4. NCR(No Carbon Required) – used to make
duplicates
5. Onion Skin – thin and non-durable
6. Labels- adhesive paper used to identify items
7. Index Cards- thick, rectangular, pre-ruled
8. Glossy – use to print pictures
Paper Sizes
 Paper is available in a variety of sizes to
serve different purposes.

 The IPS is the most widely used; which


are referred to as the “A” series. They
range from A0(largest) -A10(smallest).

A1 Posters, Wall Maps
A2 Wall Calendars, Advertisements, Sketch Pads
A3 Small posters
A4 Letters, letterheads, manuscripts, minutes, reports, forms, invoices,
agendas, memoranda
A5 Short memoranda, short letters, agendas, greeting cards
A6 Postcards, invitations
A7 Labels, index cards, invitations
A8 Business cards
A9 Labels, price tags
A10 Postage stamps
Paper Orientation
 This refers to the positioning of the paper.
 It may either be landscape or portrait.
Envelopes
 An envelope is an item of stationery, often
with a sealable flap, used for packaging and
protecting documents for dispatch.

 Envelopes are numbered using the “C”


Series like paper sizes are measured using
the “A” Series.
Types of envelopes
1. Pocket- has a sealable flap on the short side
2. Banker- has a sealable flap on the longer side
3. Window- Address are not affixed as the address
is seen through the opening at the front of the
envelope. The window is covered with a thin
sheet of transparent paper.
4. Airmail- used when sending international
correspondence. Easily identified by their red,
blue and white border.
5. Padded – Walls are lined with a cushiony
material which decreases the chances of
contents being damaged.
