Abstract
A teaching methodology is a method by which a teacher chooses to explain or teach the material to
students in order for them to learn the material. A teacher can use a variety of methodologies, and the methods
used are frequently determined by the educational philosophy and preferences of the teacher. The combination
of various teaching methods is something that every professional teacher should be aware of and put into
practice. This may include lecturing, group or small group discussion activities, and involving students as
teachers for their peers. There are many frameworks that a teacher could use to support students with different
interests, abilities and learning styles.

Introduction
Teaching methods are the broader techniques used to help students achieve learning
outcomes, while activities are the different ways of implementing these methods. Teaching
methods help students:
Master the content of the course
Learn how to apply the content in particular contexts
Instructors should identify which teaching methods will properly support a particular
learning outcome. Its effectiveness depends on this alignment. To make the most
appropriate choice, an instructor should consider learning outcomes, student needs and
the learning environment. Assessing and improving teaching is best accomplished when
multiple sources of evidence — self-reflection, student feedback and peer observation —
are well understood.
Teaching Methods
The most accepted criterion for measuring good teaching is the amount of student
learning that occurs. There are consistently high correlations between students‘ ratings of
the ―amount learned‖ in the course and their overall ratings of the teacher and the course.

2. Learner-centered methods,
3. Content-focused methods;
4. Interactive/participative methods.
Content-Focused Methods
In this category of methods, both the teacher and the learners have to fit into the
content that is taught. A lot of emphasis is laid on the clarity and careful analyses of
content. Both the teacher and the learners cannot alter or become critical of anything to do
with the content.
Experiential Learning
Experiential learning is a great teaching method because it encourages creativity, helps
students learn from mistakes, fosters reflective thinking, and prepares students for future
experiences. It can be effective for several subjects, especially during science experiments,
sports coaching, and group projects.

Blended Learning
Blended learning is a combination of traditional face-to-face learning and technology-
based learning. Although blended learning did exist before the COVID-19 pandemic, it‘s
become more popular with schools and universities in the two years.
Game-Based Learning
Game-based learning, also known as gamification, is a great way to engage students,
particularly those in primary and secondary education.
Student-Centered Learning
In student-centred learning approaches, students are encouraged to take an active role
in the classroom, rather than taking part in more passive activities like listening to a lecture
or writing an essay. They will have lots of discussions with their peers and teachers, and
they‘ll also be encouraged to ask questions, which is linked to inquiry-based learning.
Types of Assessment
Formative Assessment
Formative assessment is used in the first attempt of developing instruction. The goal is
to monitor student learning to provide feedback.

Summative Assessment
Summative assessment is aimed at assessing the extent to which the most important
outcomes at the end of the instruction have been reached. But it measures more: the
effectiveness of learning, reactions on the instruction and the benefits on a long-term base.
Criterion-Referenced Assessment
It measures student‘s performances against a fixed set of predetermined criteria or
learning standards. It checks what students are expected to know and be able to do at a
specific stage of their education. Criterion-referenced tests are used to evaluate a specific
body of knowledge or skill set, it‘s a test to evaluate the curriculum taught in a course.
Conclusion
There is no ―best‖ method of teaching. Teacher-centered approach leaves out many
skills and learning opportunities for students. Yet, there may still be space for teacher-
centered learning for some specific topics and learning objectives. However, teacher-
centered learning shouldn‘t be the only strategy in your teacher toolbox.
The bottom line is that each teacher needs to find a teaching style that fits his or her
personality. An effective teacher is a passionate teacher who is confident in what they‘re
doing!
