1.06 COORDINATION

A. Coordinate size and location of concrete bases. Cast anchor-bolt inserts into bases.
Concrete, reinforcement, and formwork requirements are specified in Section 03 1000.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 PUDDLE FLANGES FOR RCC WATER STORAGE TANK(S)

A. Puddle flanges shall be used for all connections to RCC water storage tanks. Details on
the Drawings shall be referred to for minimum dimensions.

B. Puddle flanges fabricated from schedule 80 wrought steel pipes and welding neck steel
flanges shall be used for connections to ferrous piping. The assembly shall be hot dip
galvanized after fabrication.

C. Integral flanges with studs / cap nuts at wall face and loose, split flanges shall be used
to flash tanking membranes at the puddle flange.

2.02 SUCTION STRAINERS

A. For Copper: These shall be fabricated from line size copper pipes (Type `K' Hard) and
bronze flanges. Minimum total area of perforations (6 mm size) shall be four (4) times
the sectional area of the pipe. Straightened pipe fabric shall be brazed to the pipe end
as end cap.

B. For Ferrous Pipes: Food grade epoxy coated cast iron body with integral flange and 12
mm (1/2 inch) perforations (Ref: Hattersley Newman Hinders fig. No. 2151 G or
approved equal).

C. Fasteners shall be of corrosion resistant material like stainless steel or high tensile
brass.

2.03 VENTILATOR(S) FOR RCC WATER STORAGE TANK(S)

A. L-shaped pipe (schedule 80 wrought steel) with integral puddles at the water storage
tank wall, hot dip galvanized after fabrication; fitted with coated cast iron vandal proof
hooded vent cap with counter flashing collar, deep protective hood and recessed
securing screws.

B. Air passages shall be covered with fine copper or plastic wire mesh to prevent the entry
of flies and pests into the tank.

2.04 LADDERS FOR RCC WATER STORAGE TANK(S)

A. Refer to Section 05 5000 “Metal Fabrication”.

B. These shall be fabricated from type 316 (austenitic) stainless steel tubes (schedule 20
or better) and plates. Main rail shall be 32 mm (1 1/4 inch) nom. dia. and rungs shall be
25 mm (1 inch) nom. dia. in size. Joints shall be welded and base plates of 10 x 10 x 1
cm size with drilled holes shall be provided for attaching the ladders to walls. These
base plates shall be bolted to wall inserts and the ladder welded (at site) to them to
attain good alignment.

C. Safety cages made of 25 x 3 mm (1 x 1/8 inch) stainless steel flats shall be provided for
ladders exceeding 2.5 M (8 feet) in height. These shall be attached rigidly to ladders by
bolting to specially prepared lugs on the ladder rail (omit on ladders inside tanks).

D. Stainless steel wall inserts (of pipe, puddle and stud plates at wall face) shall be cast-in
in the water storage tank walls for attaching ladders. Extra care shall be taken to attain
proper alignment and water tightness. Appropriate detail shall be used to flash tanking
membranes at ladder support bases.
