OPERATION AND PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT
FINAL EXAMINATIONS
Process design is really important in operations management as it helps make everything run
smoothly and efficiently. By planning and organizing how activities and resources are used, good
process design helps reduce waste and cut costs. It also ensures that products and services in a
business are consistently high quality, which keeps customer satisfaction. It also enables
organizations to respond swiftly to market changes, adopt innovative technologies and pursue
sustainable practices, of which are important in maintaining a competitive edge in today’s
complex business environment.
In my role at my current company, we've recently focused on refining our recruitment process
design, resulting in significant improvements in efficiency and candidate experience. By
implementing an advanced applicant tracking system and standardizing communication
protocols, we've effectively reduced time-to-hire and enhanced candidate satisfaction. Moreover,
our commitment to leveraging data for continuous improvement ensures that our recruitment
efforts remain flexible and responsive to evolving business needs. These strategic enhancements
not only strengthen our employer brand but also position our company as the employer of choice
for top talent in the competitive talent market.
In our continuously evolving world, where technology continues to be an integral part of our
lives, it makes our lives easier. The way companies manage their logistical operations has been
completely transformed by integrating information systems into supply chain management.
These systems offer real-time insights into inventory levels, production schedules, and
transportation routes, giving decision-makers the data they need to optimize processes and adapt
quickly to market changes. Also, they encourage smooth collaboration among supply chain
partners, making communication transparent and coordination efficient. This connectivity allows
everyone involved to work together better, reducing inefficiencies and providing better service to
customers.
In addition, these information systems come with automation features that streamline routine
tasks and processes, saving time and money across the supply chain. By automating inventory
management, order processing, and distribution logistics, companies can respond to customer
demands more quickly and accurately.
An example that comes to mind is TikTok. As a user with not many followers, I've noticed how
this social media platform has leveraged technology to enhance its supply chain operations.
TikTok utilizes sophisticated algorithms and machine learning to optimize its content delivery
network. Based on my observations, unlike other e-commerce platforms, TikTok offers faster
delivery. It doesn't take long to receive your order, even if it's from overseas. Consumers can also
track the movement of their parcels, as the platform provides timely updates, which I believe sets
them apart as more advanced compared to others.
Quality management ensures products or services meet or exceed customer expectations and
adhere to standards. It's vital in operations and production management because it boosts
customer satisfaction, maintains brand reputation, and reduces costs associated with defects.
An example of a company that has successfully implemented such a system is San Miguel
Corporation. As one of the largest companies in the Philippines, it has been providing quality
products and services not just locally but also internationally for over 130 years. Throughout this
time, they have retained their consumers, and their products are highly valued. By ensuring
consistency, safety, and purity across its products, SMC strengthens customer loyalty, boosts
operational efficiency, and fosters innovation, driving sustainable growth and market leadership.
Moreover, inventory management seeks to streamline supply chain operations by reducing lead
times and improving forecast accuracy. Decreasing lead times enables agile responses to demand
fluctuations, reducing the need for excess inventory to compensate for longer replenishment
cycles. Additionally, accurate demand forecasting empowers businesses to anticipate future
inventory requirements more precisely, thereby mitigating the risks of stockouts and excess
inventory accumulation. By effectively managing these objectives, companies can enhance
operational efficiency, allocate resources wisely, and maintain a customer-centric approach to
service delivery.
