NUMBER: 21.0/103
ISSUED: November 2001
REVISED:
PRODUCT: All
MODEL(S): Compressor
Specifics:
Purpose:
To communicate information regarding failure of certain alignment tools used for shaft rotation.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
Some coupling alignment tools used for rotating the shaft have failed due to brittle pins, which
break when minimal force or impact is applied. These failures are believed to be isolated and the
result of faulty plating procedures. The suspect tool kit part numbers are as follows:
FT67107-100 FT67107-700
FT67107-200 FT67107-800
FT67107-300 FT67107-900
FT67107-400 FT67107-1001
FT67107-500 FT67107-1101
FT67107-600 FT67107-1200
Support the tool in a vise and strike the pin, perpendicular to its axis with an 8-ounce hammer. It is
not necessary to apply a strong blow, which could damage an otherwise acceptable pin. One blow
is sufficient to test the pin. If the pin has become brittle, it will fracture easily.
Any faulty shaft-rotating pieces may be returned for exchange, free of charge. Be sure to test the
piece before taking any further action. If the pin does not fracture when tested, do not return
it.
NOTE
All faulty pieces must be received prior to March 2002 for free replacement.
It is expected that there is only a small population of defective parts. Tracking of the tool serial
numbers, as mentioned above, is essential to determine which plating lot numbers are affected.
