Analysis
In this new report we highlight the recurring trends across the 15 trade shows in
Europe and the US that our team has covered in the first half of the year, and call
out the unmissable key directions for brands and retailers to invest into.

The first half of 2022 has seen a number of trade shows being cancelled or postponed
due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, alongside supply chain issues and travel
restrictions. Wherever possible, our team has been on the ground, covering 15 shows
to date in Europe and the US and reporting on the key design directions across a broad
range of product categories – from automotive and outdoors to textiles and toys. We
noted that the disruptions brought about by the pandemic and logistics issues have
actually allowed for newer and smaller brands to come forward, imbuing fresh
inspiration.
By analysing our imagery and the reports we created from these shows, we were able
to connect the dots between trends recurring across different events and market
areas, and call out the most relevant areas of opportunity and investment for brands
and retailers to tap into as planning for 2023 starts.
What does this mean for you? The aim of this report is to provide you with clear
directions across product design and CMF that will be relevant across a broad range of
product categories, confirming their long-term relevance. Whether you are in tabletop
or contract furnishings, by calling out these must-know recurring trends, we support
you in taking a confident step in your product development as well as building your
assortments.

Warm minimalism
Minimalism takes a warm and tactile turn
across the shows, bringing a sense of
softness via CMF.

direction and convey this warm, minimal look to

Reassuring nostalgia
The power of nostalgia continues to drive
designs across a broad range of categories
within interiors.

The first way to tap into nostalgia is by re-

editing icons and clas s ics in fresh and
surprising colourways, updated materials or
collectible capsules, to thus engage new
audiences. From Milan Design Week to the toy
shows in Europe and the US, this confirms as a

Raw and rough
Raw tactilities and rough, lived-in finishes
bring an elemental quality to designs and
spaces.

This is a direction that is coming from the

higher end of the market and is ripe for
A. Vetra - MDW broader application. It stems from the growing
interest in handicraft and the mark of the
maker to convey a more authentic nar rative
to products. Stone, glas s and ceramic are key
materials to test oxidation, patina and uneven,

Veined s tone confirms as a must-have,
favouring the use of extra-large slabs that
come to everyday areas of the home such as
