1. What are chatbots and why do they matter?

According to Frankenfield (2022), businesses are shifting their customer

transactions from conventional to digital platforms as a result of the steady

advancement of technology. Companies are using AI strategies on their digital

platforms to provide convenience through technology. Chatbots are one AI method

whose use and application are expanding. Virtual assistants like Alexa and Google

Assistant from Amazon and messaging apps like WeChat and Facebook Messenger

are a couple of instances of chatbot technology. An artificial program that

communicates with clients in the same way as a human and costs minimal or zero to

operate is called a chatbot.

With this extraordinary discovery of more advanced technology, chatbots have

gained popularity in making people's lives easier and more accessible at all times. For

instance, as the internet is widely accessible and where people spend most of their

time, it has been convenient to make connections easily at wherever part of the world

they are in. Another example is that it reduces costs for companies by paying more

people to assist customers online. Since chatbots are automated, they can answer

inquiries right away and all the time. It reduces wasting the precious time of the

customer and the cost of hiring human support for the company.

Chatbots can perform simple tasks and handle multiple users at the same time.

It provides productivity for businesses as it helps employees focus on their more

demanding responsibilities. According to Walters (2021), two types of chatbots are

available and frequently used. The first one is the web-based applications; these

chatbots run over the internet and don't require any further downloads to function.

Web-based applications can be used via a chat service or website. The second one is

called standalone apps, in which anyone can download this kind of chatbot on their

2
phone or other handheld device in one go. They function separately from other

programs and systems.

Moreover, when operated to sustain specific tasks, chatbots can retrieve

information from databases or external sources accurately and quickly. It helps

employees aid and organize their tasks and access various information. In conclusion,

chatbots do matter, given they provide convenience, accuracy, and better user

experience for different kinds of businesses. As technology continues to develop,

chatbots' function and automated performance also improves.

2. How can chatbots be used in the health and education fields?

• Educational chatbots

Based on Singh (2022), the fact that every learner absorbs and understands

information at a different pace has always presented challenges to learning

institutions. In order to balance the demands of students, parents, and teachers, the

educational industry has been offering to consider kids' learning experiences carefully.

The educational sector analyzes technology advancements across various industrial

sectors, focusing on how the "digitalization" trend is spreading to speed up and simplify

procedures. In this field, chatbots are becoming prevalent in helping learners and

teachers make their jobs more accessible and more efficient in learning.

For students, chatbots have been advantageous in accessing learning

materials quickly whenever they need them at any time, particularly for those who

study at unconventional hours and live abroad. Apart from that, they could seek

assistance with homework and problem-solving, and others could be provided with

explanations, especially for complex contexts. They could receive immediate feedback

3
through chatbots without waiting for their teachers’ response. Chatbots can be

beneficial for assisting school administrators in offering or facilitating the admissions

process for prospective students through their website.

Moreover, these chatbots are seen effectively in supporting students by

reminding them of their tasks that need to be done. Sometimes, students are

overwhelmed with all the assignments they need to accomplish, which makes them

unable to know what needs to be done first. Chatbots are helpful as they can organize

them, set a date, and alert students. This kind of strategy in an educational field also

keeps the learners engaged and enjoy knowing valuable information at their own pace.

Lastly, Singh (2022) indicated that by providing necessary answers, AI chatbots

for education enhance the dynamic nature of learning and reduce students' doubt over

a range of subject areas. However, it also lessens the workload for teachers and

enhances the rapport between them and their students. The most important benefit is

that to adequately prepare for the demands of the future, learners must use these

online tools for training daily. Since automation and technological advancements are

critical components of the future—as we all know—chatbots are a suitable

complement to help individuals learn how to accomplish their goals more quickly.

• Health therapy chatbots

In this advanced technology world, there is a vast global concern over mental

health. Studies reveal that about 40% of individuals have a mental health problem at

some point during the year. Thankfully, therapy has evolved into a vital weapon in the

fight against mental diseases in our day and age. Psychotherapy, in particular, uses a

psychological approach instead of a medical one to treat mental disease. But how

does therapy chatbots work? According to Venugopal (2022), Cognitive Behavioral

4
Therapy, or CBT, is the approach that forms the foundation of therapy bots and

chatbots for mental health. Talk therapy involving someone with mental illness and a

therapist is referred to as CBT in psychotherapy. It entails recognizing incorrect or

maladaptive thought processes, feelings, or behaviors and switching them out for

more advantageous ones.

As they further modified them, chatbots became helpful for people experiencing

mental health concerns. Some people are unsure if what they are experiencing are

symptoms of an illness and are hesitant to seek a therapist. Through chatbots, they

can immediately type in their symptoms right away, and the bots can distinguish them

immediately. Although some could diagnose inaccurately, chatbots could still provide

safe coping mechanisms for patients.

Apart from that, patients can use chatbots to track down their symptoms, moods,

and behaviors and could receive advice on ways to solve their problems that intrigue

their minds. Moreover, chatbots could also provide words of encouragement. Aside

from that, chatbots can also cater to multiple clients and interactions and record

personal information quickly. However, speaking to a human therapist is much more

helpful; chatbots are great for those who are afraid of any stigma about mental health.

While chatbots are great tools for the health therapy field, there are still factors

that need to be considered in order for them to be excellent for patients. As it is still a

machine, it lacks the emotional capacity to connect with patients and may misdiagnose

or leak shared private information. Despite that, people should be aware that chatbots

should only serve as therapist assistants. It cannot truly perform and give what a

human therapist does for extreme mental health disorders.

3. Which jobs will be replaced by robots first?

The discovery and creation of artificial intelligence is tremendous but can be

unsettling due to some concerns that may impact our society, ethics, privacy, and

employment. One of the first jobs that robots may replace is teachers. Everything

can be found on the internet, especially learning materials, accessible with one

click away. If we are able to create chatbots, then the demand for teachers could

decrease and will be replaced by AI. This will prompt a few institutions to lose some

of their educators to reduce the cost of having to pay them. Aside from that, since

AI can work 24/7, students can comprehend at their own pace. They won’t need to

wait for their teachers’ response or make them repeat their lectures in case they

missed them.

Secondly, more than ever, customer services are indeed being replaced by

robots. It can be seen when shopping online, visiting a website, and many more.

Companies won’t need people to do customer service because they can operate

robots to do it. Besides that, robots could also replace construction workers due to

several machines innovated to handle extreme work like wielding, lifting, and

carrying heavy stuff. The need for a workforce will lessen, and might only need one

or two persons to supervise.

As technology continues to evolve, transportation jobs are also affected due to

self-driving vehicles. Those who make a living from driving are prone to lose their

jobs as companies continue to create cars that have a self-driving mechanism.

Robots could also replace security jobs since we have plenty of surveillance

cameras and sensitive security motion systems that may not need a human to

patrol the area. Writers and journalists are in danger of being replaced by robots

6
because of their fast ability to write stories by collecting various data and cohesively

compiling them into one.

Some of the jobs mentioned above are in danger of being replaced by robots

due to the fact that they can do things faster and handle many tasks at the same

EFERtime. Robots don’t get tired, unlike humans. However, robots may be quick

and efficient, but they still lack emotions that connect humans to humans. Lastly,

nothing is made perfectly, and robots are bound to fail at some point. Despite that,

they could still be a good companion for us.

4. Which Jobs will be harder to replace with Robotic Technologies?

Even if robots are prevailing nowadays and have provided great assistance to

our jobs, their presence remains threatening for some. However, there are still jobs

that robots may not be able to replace or will be harder for them to do. One of them is

being a therapist and social worker- these jobs require emotional support and

guidance, which robots lack. Other healthcare professionals will be more challenging

to replace as well because they can decide on things while being empathetic to their

patients. There are still people who won’t easily trust a machine to perform their

surgery because they are prone to fail, which is unsafe in crucial operations.

Moreover, robots can’t replace lawyers. This is because robots can’t make

argumentative statements and have negotiation skills that involve ethical and moral

judgments. Robots will find it hard to conduct complex decision-making that legal

professionals can do. There are many complicated legal cases and applications of

laws that robots may not be able to understand as it is unique in some situations.

Another one was the culinary field; robots won’t easily replace chefs since the

job requires sensory perception. Robots can’t be creative as they cannot smell and

7
taste the flavors, which is vital for the job. Moreover, robots can’t create food

presentations as they lack artistic skills. Lastly, it will be impossible to replace pilots

because robots are also incapable of last-minute and ethical decision-making. If things

go wrong, robots can’t perform the manual flying skills that pilots learn to do.

In conclusion, whether we use robots to make our lives easier or not, there are

still factors that we cannot simply leave to do the job that humans have been doing for

the longest time. Robots do not have emotions and quick critical thinking for specific

tasks. It will be impossible for them to connect to humans as some of it creates biased

decisions and aren’t situationally aware. Furthermore, we must be responsible for

using robotic technologies so long that it is ethical and morally correct.
