The Ancient Egyptians used different metals. They used iron, copper
and bronze. Gold and silver were precious metals, so they were used
for making jewelry. However, silver was very rare in Ancient Egypt. The
Ancient Egyptians started using it more than 5,000 years ago. There
weren't many silver mines in Ancient Egypt, so we think they brought it
from other countries through trade. They used it to make jewelry and
mirrors. They also used sheet silver to decorate statues. Because silver is
not very durable, we don't find many silver Ancient Egyptian artifacts.
Sadly, the salts in the tombs destroyed a lot of it, so we cannot see very
much of it today.
