MATERIALS:
VOM
Plug-in Board
Transistor: 2N3904 (1)
Power supply
Connecting wires
Resistors: 18 KΩ (1), 3.9KΩ (1), 1.2 KΩ (1), 330Ω (1)
Signal Generator
Oscilloscope
Capacitor: 3.3 µF (1)
PROCEDURES:
1. Connect the circuit shown in Figure 1. Do not turn on the power supply yet and do not
apply any signal from the signal generator.
TABLE 1
4. Using the oscilloscope, measure a 1KHz, 20 or 40mVp-p output voltage from the signal
generator and connect this signal to points A and B of the circuit in Figure 1.
5. Connect the channel 1 probe of the oscilloscope to points A and B and the channel 2
probe to points C and D of the circuit in Figure 1. Set the oscilloscope to either ALT or
CHOP mode.
Observe and compare the input and output waveforms; is the output waveform
larger than the output waveform?______________.
Is this characteristic of a Common- Collector Amplifier?________________.
6. Draw the input and output waveforms on the graph provided below.
Using the oscilloscope, measure the peak-to-peak voltage of the input signal (at points A
and B or VIN) and on the output signal ( at points C and D or V OUT). Also calculate the
voltage gain, AV, of the amplifier. Record all measured and calculated values below.
TABLE 2
Does the transistor provides voltage amplification to the small input signal?
________.
Is the input signal approximately in-phase or out of phase with the output signal?
_____________.
7. Disconnect the circuit. Clean your work area and arrange the materials in their proper
places.
EVALUATION
4. To bias the transistor as an amplifier, what must be the typical values of V BE and VCE?
____________.
